Is this the page you downloaded your firmware from? http://www.tsstodd.com/eng/Firmware/...lim%20External

    OEM Code
    : TS
Firmware Ver. (Your log shows your using this version Tso1 but the update page says new firmware released so i thought they may have made minor changes to the same version else why would they say new firmware released?
    : TS01
    Sales Region
    : WORLD WIDE
    Specification
    : New firmware released.

As I see under specification the words new firmware released.

Anyway your log shows this: Failed to Write Sectors 0 - 31 - Reason: Power Calibration Area Error.

When you get this in the log it is because the burning program doesn't like the blu ray disks your using and failed to write data to the disk.

This is caused by using cheap disks that are made cheaply and fall outside the burners ability to write data to.

If you try a good disk you will see it will work fine. You get what you pay for find the cheapest cost disk have the most problems.

Even disks that once worked may have been given to another country to be made in where the labor costs are cheaper so they don't use the same equipment and the disks that once worked no longer work.

Also everyone needs to check their firmware on their disk burners as manufactures will update their firmware to make their drives work with cheaper disks or to get bugs out from time to time.My pioneer drive's firmware was updated 4 times and it works now with disks it didn't like before.Their are some disks it still won't burn so i don't use them.

Then media players came out and I never will burn a disk again all movies now stored on cheap 3t hard drives.

I appreciate the help. I updated the firmware even though it was the same version ts01. That didn't help. I then updated it with the previous version, ts00, nothing, and then again to ts01 and still nothing. Through windows I tried to write data to a blu ray disc as a test and it still said it could not detect writable media. I have verbatim discs and I have philips discs. I find it hard to believe that of the two not one is working especially since I went through a whole spindle of 25 philips discs with no problem.

I guess I need to get a new burner and see if it works?

Take a Q-Tip and dip one end in alcohol, not sopping wet or drippy, and clean the laser lens the take the dry end and buff the lens dry and give it a whirl.
How to post the internal log

No, not using bit defender security program. I tried that microsoft utility and it recongized the problem but was unable to fix it. Thanks for sending that though, I had't seen that program.
I did get a new writer today and successfully wrote to a blank disc an iso image that I had saved. However, trying to make a backup of Saving Private Ryan has been problematic. Here is the log, any ideas what it could be? I don't think it's the writer or the verbatim discs (it errors out during the rip, not the write):

Go into Fab settings and uncheck lightning recoding and try again. You got a read error 42 mins into convert so it could be that and or a dirty disk.

I turned off lightning recoding and that did not help. This is getting really frustrating. I just renewed my dvdfab bluray copy license, i bought a replacement burner (the original was only 4 months old), I've gotten another spindle of verbatim discs and still not able to make backups. when everything was fine before! I'm beginning to think there is a setting issue or something with my system that is preventing this. The errors I'm now getting are always during the ripping process whereas the other day with my original burner it was the writing process. Now the error I get is ""Error while reading! Please choose what to do? retry, abort, ignore, ignore All" - I've tried a couple different source discs and they are clean. Can someone help?

The things that changed is the new spindle of disks for your old drive you didn't take my advice and try another disk besides the two brands you have at the house so I can't help you anymore with that drive.
My friend Holmes says when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?

On the new drive does it work with the new spindle of disks? does the Philips disks also work with the new drive? test it out to see if they burn ok with the new drive use a (new) store brought disk make a copy and burn.Old disks that are scratched may play fine but won't copy.I researched your drive theirs no information on it where did you get it?
