    Help w/set up sony bdp-bx59

I just bought a sony bdp-bx59 with out dated firmware on purpose. The newest firmware update has Cinavia. After connecting the player to my wireless frequency entering my lock code, The problem I am facing is that in order to access any internet functions, a notice comes up requiring to update to new firmware. If I cancel rather than OK (the only two choices), I go back to previous menu. Does anyone know any way around this to access internet streams without updating firmware. I know if I update, I will not be able to play backups with Cinavia. Help

I think you just have to get used to playing disc-based movies and nothing else on this player. They've designed it that way on purpose. Look on the bright side, though... you have a rare, valuable player in this day and age of Cinavia-invested devices.

According to the unit's manual, you have a USB connection. From what I've read on a limited number of user postings, Cinavia infected players do not block playback when using the USB connection. This is not a guarantee that Sony's firmware update won't affect the USB connection but it does potentially provide an option if you do update the firmware.

I think SuperFist has the answer, disconnect the wireless and be happy.

There are plenty of cheap media players out there for internet based services such as your favorite movie rental company.

Before agonizing too long over this, you may want to test to see if your player isn't already cinavia enabled. I thought I had read that the S580 series was originally released free of cinavia and subsequently infected via a firmware update, but the S590 series (I believe the BX59 is the Costco version of the S590) was cinavia enabled right out of the box. Playing a copy of a cinavia infected title might be worthwhile.

So disappointed. It turns out as last reply states. This unit is already infected. Oh well. I sure hope DVDFab comes up with a cure. I read somewhere that there is hope.

I would not hold your breath waiting unfortunately.

Have you tried playing via USB as stated above?

You might watch for a used player that remains cinavia free. Sony models S570 & earlier remain clean. I still use my original S350 in a secondary home theater setup - and it continues to work flawlessly.

Figured this out on my own player......

Seems to me now, that the way to avoid the Cinavia issue, is to stay disconnected to the Internet....

That is the culprit... Signal sent, and then the response seems to be that it's a Copy, and the Cinavia kicks in at 10 minutes into the movie...

Once a Cinavia problem is detected while connected to the internet, it apparently saves a "Cookie" like item onto your player, and doesn't allow to play... You will need to go into your settings, and reset to Default settings. Disconnect from the Internet, and the problem will be gone.
I just stay disconnected from the Internet, and don't have the issue to even worry about.

Unconnected to the Internet, and no issue..

dcc1048, you've put this same information in three different threads. This is both unnecessary and against the forum rules. In the future they will be deleted without notice. .

I confess to being very skeptical about this "solution". But, since I do not own any equipment that has any clue what cinavia is, I cannot test. What blu-ray player was used to arrive at this conclusion? Has anyone else with a cinavia enabled player and a copy of a cinavia infected title tested this "solution" to verify?

                            Rich86-----

A friend of mine who owns a Sony Freestanding Player told me to try this EXACTLY based on the below info stated, and it did check out...so....

I arrived at this by using Battle: Los Angeles (backup). It is a Cinavia disk. When connected to Internet, 10 minutes in... lost sound.

After Resetting to Default settings (Factory) and unhooking internet, worked fine.

The best way I can describe it, is a "Cookie" is embedded in the player while connected to the internet. Then it causes the issue. Once it senses it, it remains there. Unless you reset the settings, it will stay there, and you will never be able to repaly that copy...

Reseeting causes the "Cookies" to wipe clean. But in order to stay clean, you can't be conected to the internet, to re-cause the previous issue....

Hard to explain, hope that makes sense...
