    BD Media Question

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question for I am a newbie and first time poster.

I know what a DVD5 and DVD9 is, but please tell me what is BD5 or BD9 when referring to copying a BD25 to BD5 or BD9?

    Thanks

The software gives you the option to back up a bluray movie to a regular dvd (BD5 720p)or dual layer (BD9 720p or 1080p). I hope this is the info you need.

So what you are saying is that the target media is a DVD5 (DVD-R) or DVD9 (DVD-DL) and you are calling it a BD5 or BD9 when the copy is complete because it is no longer in DVD format?

Correct. BD-9 may be burned on a DVD+DL using a conventional DVD burner, but is in BluRay format and requires a BluRay player for playback. Just be aware that when you squash a BluRay movie into a DVD+DL you have severely lowered the bitrate of the recording. This will impact the PQ of the resulting recording. How much you notice will depend on the type of movie, the quality/size of your display and the age of your eyes. The bigger and sharper the display the more evident it will be when compared to the original BluRay disk.

Compressing a bluray movie to 25% of it's original quality seems to defeat the whole purpose of backing up a BD disc. Just my humble opinion.

yeah, I can see taking a 30GB movie down to 25GB to fit on a BD-R but if you are going to go down to BD-9 just forget BluRay and go DVD to begin with and be done with it.

I back up my BDs to BD9 720p and the picture quality is still far superior to that of a standard DVD. DVD+DL is fairly cheap media and these are only backups, you still have the original if you want all the bells and whistles.

I'd say that sometimes the original content is not Blu Ray worthy but the distributors want people to buy the blu ray version to raise money and have them think it is going to be stunning. I have compressed a few BD's to BD5 more so just to see how my system performed (it's intensive) and also to see what the quality was like. It was not as bad as you would think.

Yes so far so good have had it for a few months, Good multi drive with 8x burn capability on BD. It was on sale at NEWEGG.CA for around 160 with free shipping don't know if it still is. I have always had good sucess with LG opticals.
