BD-R 25 will play on PC but not on player

I am shrinking BD's down to BD-25 using Main Movie. They will play on PC just fine, but will just hang on "Play" and not do anything. I can advance from chapter 0 to chapter 1, but it will still do the same thing - act like it is playing but the display reads 0000.

Could it be a special setting on my Oppo BD-83 player?

First thing is your BD-83 firmware up to date? What software did you use to burn? IMGBurn is the preferred and free. Also check your media burn speed and only burn at half.

The Oppo firmware is up to date. I have had some success burning discs that work in the Oppo player - but it has been hit and miss. I have been burning with the Fab VSO. I will try ImgBurn and see if that works.

I too am having the exact same problem. First few BD backups went fine. (2001, Up, Terminator: Salvation, Star Trek, etc). Recently have had problems with Inglorious Bastards, Family Guy SSSDS & 2012. Have used VSO & ImgBurn and it makes no difference. Been trying BD-RE recently to save from making coasters.

I have the LG BD390, so I've been playing those backups that wouldn't work from my networked drive, but would like to burn to the BD-RE, BD-R, or DVD9.

The BD390 recognizes the BD disk, but the timer just displays 00:00. I try to fast forward, skip or select a chapter from the menu, and nothing. Put the disk back in the PC and it plays no problem.

I'm at a loss. Waiting for the full disk compression (w/ menus, extras etc) to come. Maybe that will make the BD390 happy.

I too have gone to BD-RE to save money since I am manufacturing so many quality coasters.

The last two I tried was with ImgBurn from a shrink to fit BD-25 ISO image. Now they say "No Disc" in PC AND player...grrreeaat.

I am now going to not remove the region code as my Oppo player says to do so. However, I have played hundreds of DVDs with the region code removed and they have all played fine.

Have you tried ripping to HD not as an .iso but just a file then compress with Fab as a file and burn afterwards with IMG and see if that works. I never create .iso's since I always burn to disc. This method always works for me. If no luck for you then it may be your player doesn't like something about the copies.

I have tried a lot of things, including to the HD. I am not sure exactly what I have done that has been successful but here are the titles that HAVE played in my standalone - The Shining, Benjamin Buttons and Dark Knight (BD-DL).

I am sure I will be going to the HD again. It is just so time consuming - 9-10 hours to shrink to a BD-25 and then another 40-50 minutes to burn.

If time is a concern the fastest conversion for me is BDDVD9 at 720p.

I want 1080P and I have gotten 1080P - I am just not sure how I got it. Guess I should have carefully logged everything I have done. Your suggestion is a viable one - thanks for that - but the solution to consistently getting a good BD-25 is what I hope to achieve.

Ripping to the HD first is better for your BD burner since it is only spinning while you rip. Otherwise the burner will cycle for the 10 hrs of compression.

There is a problem with this new version, as others have said ok playing back on the original PC. BUT 'touch and go' whether you get any vision when switching chapters (although sound ok) with my Oppo BD83... back to FAB6 I suppose.

I went back to Version 6 and it still says "No Disc" when the BD-RE is inserted into the Oppo and it plays fine in the PC.

Problem solved...

By using Version 6, ripping to HDD and using ImgBurn, I have had success on 3 discs in a row! That is using Main Movie mode and stripping out the unusable audio streams.

i posted this in the other thread but am posting here also in hopes more people will see it and reply:

i do not like the new version at all. i have an i7 laptop with 8 gig of memory anda 1 gb nvidia cuda graphics gpu. the newer version uses the cuda mostly, and only uses 30% of cpu, but takes half hour longer than version 6 that uses 100% of cpu. also, i burned "up in the air" main movie, video and dtshd track only using imgburn and it still wouldnt play on my pioneer 51fd. it did play on my oppo bd-83 but the new version has the stupid dvdfab.com logo in the upper left corner if the video for like 60 seconds...this program NEVER inserted logog before...and it doesnt appear there is a way to defeat it...is there? i havent found it. also with version 6 i never had a problem with either player playing the discs.

also, the video actually looked more pixelated to me on the version 7 than it does on the version 6. i have reverted to version 6 and am going to continue to use it until someone on here says that the logo is GONE or DEFEATABLE when ripping a main movie off a bluray to BD-25 disc. so basically a 2 dollar disc became a coaster to me. thanks dvdfab.

does anyone know if the logo is removable? i dont want it there at all.
