    Failed to burn

    Tried to burn a rip twice, "failed to burn" almost right away using folder mode. The blu-ray burner and discs are new so I'm learning, but I've made a few image files and burned one with no problems using Nero 7 so I think my new Pioneer burner and Memorex discs are okay. Log file below....

    I suppose you using VSO burning engine. Please try ImgBurn. Read this and follow instructions:

      Your drive is in PIO mode Open Fab click the little green check top right under general make sure check for DMA is checked and also click reset DMA on the right the restart Fab and try again

        Hi again, a couple more things I would like to suggest if setting up ImgBurn or just using the VSO burn engine in Fab try lowering your burn speed to 1/2 the rated speed of your disc, which in your case of the media you are using now is 4x.

        Also your drive has a firmware update and you will find it here if you Do Not know how to flash your drive Do Not do it, it will render your drive useless.

        If you need assistance on doing it I may be able to help you.

          Also update to the latest Beta as it has Bluray fixes and updates for BD+ protection

            New here but how is your Burner hooked up? I had mine hooked up through ide connection and had problems. I'm using usb connection now and its better.

                Thanks for the responses.

                Despite the fact that DVDfab is reporting my drive in "PIO" mode, I don't think it is. Everywhere else I look it shows GEN 1/SATA 150 etc. All my drives are SATA (can you even buy an IDE BD burner?) and I have an X58 Mobo with the latest Intel ICH10R controller. I tried the "reset DMA' option and nothing changed. They don't even put a place to check for DMA anymore for SATA devices because it's just assumed.

                My read/rip speed is about 25Mb/s for an uncompressed rip, maybe you guys can tell me if that's about right?

                The drive has 1.04 on it, which is the latest official firmware on the Pioneer site. I would flash it if I knew what the 1.08 was built to fix but I couldn't find a read me for it.

                Maybe I will try using the Nero burning engine option, or just rip everything to an image and use Nero seperately to burn it which seems to work fine. Everyone does seem to like Imgburn, at this point I'm most likely to blame the VSO burning engine.

                Another thing I might do is switch to the JMicron controller on my mobo for my optical drives, since I'm running a RAID array on the Intel controller. It isn't supposed to be an issue but a little seperation can't hurt and the jMicron controller isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Especially for optical drives.

                  You can also check your drives mode by going into device manager IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers click IDE controllers advanced settings and check for DMA, if they are IDE, but make sure you check both of your IDE channels.
                  For Sata in the same folder IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Serial ATA controllers click the port that has your drive on it, and also check your DMA status.
                  As also suggested in my own opinion I would install ImgBurn
