I have this driver too, and do have a problems time to time identical to your as well. There are two major issues associated with this error: card driver and power. Don't take me wrong, more other things can cause it, but these two are most common. I don't see how driver of your card can cause the problem because your are not even use GPU acceleration, but maybe I don't know something. However, this driver (197.75) known as a possible cause of various issues associated with CUDA. I know this for a fact, in association with different program. I even roll my back to 193.
I will' however take a close look at your power supply and power consumption. If that isn't a cause, than we should look at everything else one-by-one.

My system

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
İ7-930,PALİT GTX480, 6x2TB Disk,3x 2GB K. HYPERX DDR3 2000MHZ,Gigabyte EX58A-UD3R,X-FI Xtreme Tit. FAtaLty Chap., T.T. 850 Watt PSU, Logitech Z5500, Acer AL2416W 24", Logitech G15+G9,BLU-RAY Writer, Skaystar HD2,OCZ Vendetta2

When not doing any overclocking. very stable system running at full load. I tried all the drivers for the GTX 480, I get the same error. re-encoding of the video card with the special CUDA, other programs are running very stable. For example NERO , BADABOOM ....
Already the same problem here, I wrote about the necessary error codes.

From what I see, 850w is not enough. I have similar configuration, and 1000w caused trouble until I moved to 1200w. The thing is, unlike other programs you have mentioned, that running CUDA, offsetting CPU use down to hardly 30%, while DVDFab is still pushing it to 95-100%. At this point system becoming very sensitive and unstable, especially if you running it like that for extended period of time. Growing starvation ending up with Kernel error. That's exactly what you've got. I might be wrong though..... but unlikely. I hate to send you to a shopping spree for wrong cause.... well, maybe second opinion wouldn't hurt.
