System Requirements for Backing up Blu-rays

Hey I was wondering if there's system requirements for backing up blu-rays because on my new laptop I can back them up but on my older PC I can't. My older pc has 2 gb ddr2 1.8ghz and just a onboard video card, my laptop is 4gb ddr ram, ati video card and a dual core processor. I've also noticed that some blu-rays won't let me back them up it will either close or it wont read it, some of the blus i cant back up are valkyrie, pearl harbor, slumdog millionaire, fast & furious, wolverine, planet 51. I don't know if it has to do with hardware from my machine or the dvdfab, I'm running dvd 7.04 and I'm willing to upgrade my older pc to meet the requirements. Thanks for all of the help :o

Here's an "official" minimum system requirement for DVDFab in Blu-ray mode:

* Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000 (32-bit/64-bit)
* Pentium II 500 MHz
* 512 MB of RAM
* A Blu-ray Drive
* Internet Connection

However, it's really boiling down to your understanding and definition of "backing up". If you mean and intent to just rip the entire BD onto your HDD (or external HDD), specs of your older PC is good enough (you do need a BD drive though). If you want to convert and compress your videos, it will work too, but very very very slow. If you have luxury to set DVDFab for process and leave it for a couple of days, it will work for you. Considering age of your "older PC", problem with some of your Blu-rays ("it will either close or it wont read it"), most likely lies in your hardware. I mean, firmware of your hardware could be very well outdated and requires an update. Please try to update firmware/drives for all your devices.
Oh, BTW - this: "I'm willing to upgrade my older pc to meet the requirements" is not going to work. If you want to have a decent machine - build new one.

Ok, I've compressed movies to fit a 25gb blu ray on my laptop this sometimes takes 3 hrs and some will take 11 hrs, I then insert a blank blu-ray and have it copy it or i will just leave it on my internal hard drive and copy it later.

Laptop is not good option for BD burning, I would suggest to get yourself an external drive, or as was discussed earlier pile them up until new machine is ready and burn them all. I don't know what your plans are...

i do have an external blu-ray drive, or are you talking about my hdd

I was talking about burner. If you are using your laptop for processing, but burning with external burner, you should be alright - just use quality media and burn @ lower speed.

yea i've backed up around 30 blu-rays on to 25gb and they look great i copy at a low speed its just on my pc it doesnt want to work or some blu-rays like i mentioned above wont back up. whats the best way to do it? should i rip the blu-ray fulldisc to hdd and then later open it up and compress it to a 25gb blu-ray?

Rip disc to HDD is always a good idea, and it recommended - much less stress on burner, etc.
As I said previously, I'm pretty sure that age of your desktop - need to be updated - is likely cause of all your mishaps.

Depends on what cpu your upgrading to I mean if your gonna stick with lets say a x2 core and update the speed it will help a little bit but not much. I updated my X2 to a X4 and theres a major difference. Video card upgrade is good but get atleast a video card with 512mb but 1gb is better.

whats the highest ghz you can get for your board? I built a new computer it was cheaper in the long run. I bought everything from ebay. All because I didnt like the slow compression speed my 2X 2.1ghz was doing.

As for a previous post you had I suggest ripping to your HDD then compressing it afterwords. it does make a difference.

umm not to sure i have to look in the manual. maybe a 2.5, I would like to build a new pc but my gf wouldn't be happy because were saving for the wedding and i might go back to school.

Ahhh yes the g/f factor I'm lucky I dont have one or a wife I live the single life answer to no one lol. I have no comment on weddings lol. i hope your upgrade improves your compression time.

i was wondering if i rip it to my hdd the fulldisc is it decrypting it? and then i just need to compress it to fit on my 25gb disc?

From what I understand is it is decrypting it when you put it to your HDD then when you go to put it on a BD-R 25gb it compresses it.

ok well hopefully it's working I'm backing up planet 51 which i had problems with when I would choose main movie only it would close down on me but when i select fulldisc it seems to be working, only 9.5 hrs left :)

Fast And The Furious Tokyo Drift too 45min to decrypt onto my HDD last night I would have made a copy but it was 4am in the morning and the sun was coming up so I went to bed.
