    Reading/Writing error

I keep getting a Reading/Writing error pop up message. When I choose ignore all and it continues the proccess, playback freezes and any disks that I have made are coasters. This happened with Nine/Up in the Air/Zombieland and others. I just tried to copy the main movie of Avatar and it will not ignore the Reading/Writing error. It just hangs at 6.19%. I don't know if this is a decryption issue or not, I think not as I am able to view all of disk information but I am not sure what is causing this problem. I have included all of the log files. though it seems to not be updating the proccess log.

    DVD FAB ver 7.0.7.0
    OS Vista 64 bit
    IntelCore2 Quad CPU Q9400 2.67GHz
    8G RAM
    PowerDVD
    Internal HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH20N ATA Burner

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    BlackDog,
solution for your problem most likely much simpler than you think. Please go to your local Best Buy (or Target, or Walmart, or whatever) and buy optical drive lens cleaner (you can buy disc cleaner as well, I would suggest), go back home and do some maintenance on your machine and clean your discs. Please let me know how it's going.

Both of your drives have firmware updates
      Your LG http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/BH20N/files.html
      Your Optiarc http://www.firmwarehq.com/Optiarc/AD-7230S/files.html
Note: if you do not know how to flash your drives do not do it , it will render your drives useless.

Also this was pulled from your logs:
      21:08:47: Task_2 failed! Error=123

123 HWS_FAILED_FINISHING 23 // Write failed at the end of the media (finalization is not complete)

You may still finalize this disc
Here's a method to use with VSO. It looks complicated, but it's simple and quick.
This method should still work, despite some changes in the software.
There may also be some minor differences...depending on the os,

      DVDFab Finalize a disc

Right click on the Fab Icon >
      Left click Properties >
      Left click Find Target >
      Left click PcSetup.exe >
Left click on the + in front of Patin-Couffin driver >
Now left click once to select your burner >
Right click on the selected burner >
Navigate to the bottom of the dropdown to Finalize the media
      Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice. I am not really comfortable updating the firmware directly and when I check for new drivers it says the correct ones are installed.

After cleaning the disks and drives the error messages go away, but when checking the ISO files. They images skips. It is like an old LP where the it just repeats the same frame over and over again. It has been happening with the two disks that I have been trying. But this is the reoccuring problem.

I also found the following log at PCsetup I don't know if this has anything to with the current issue, but it was created on the same day as 7.0.7.0 came out. I was having this issue with previous versions but wanted to see if a DVDfab driver was not installing correctly.

You do seems having driver problem, and also,

please do yourself a favor, switch burning engine to ImgBurn. As a result, you will have much greater stability in burning part. You can learn how here:

Windows will always tell you drivers are up to date but, this is a firmware update that will replace the original firmware installed on your drives when they were manufactured. So if you do not feel comfortable that is OK
              As stated by IPopov50
You do seems having driver problem, and also,
I also agree have you tried uninstalling Fab completely and removing all instances of Fab with a good registry cleaner like CCleaner until nothing is shown and reinstalling Fab but, making sure your KEY is in a safe place. Upon reinstalling and instead of clicking run click save then open the folder and right click and install the program as administrator.

I am mounting the ISO on DVDfab Virtual Drive v1.0.0.3 and viewing using PowerDVD DX 8.2.5711. I will uninstall DVD fab and clean the up registry and re-install DVDfab and let you know how that goes.

If that doesn't work then I may need to firgure out how to install the firmware updates.

Well the Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus didn't work, still getting skipping during playback. Though after reinstalling and cleaning the registry the speed of the process went from 2Mb/s to 20.Mb/s so that is an improvement, as it doesn't take me 10 hours to figure out things aren't working. I am going to try Avatar and see if that works.

I also update to virtual drive v1.1.1.0 in case there was a problem there as well.

IPopov50 - You suggest switiching to ImgBurn can you explain why? Does this specificaly relate to the creation of an ISO file while running DVDfab? Is it currently using my installed buring software (Roxio) to create the ISO?

Thanks for all of the help! I appreciate everyones time.

Thanks for all of the help! I appreciate everyones time.
                      Yes, I can explain why.
First, I want to make a statement. ImgBurn is a single most reliable, manageable burning engine known to this community. It's proven being best for what DVDFab does, and it's free.
Second, DVDFab doesn't have its own burning engine, but using third party "subcontractors" for it - VCO, Nero and ImgBurn. (there are no Roxio in that list).
Third. ImgBurn, despite the fact that it's a best out of many, can't be incorporated to DVDFab and replace defaulted but poorly performed VSO, because, as I already mentioned, ImgBurn is a freeware, and you can't use freeware in commercial packages. In other words, you can't sell freeware.

However, on this forum we are suggesting to all DVDFab users to pare up their Fab with ImgBurn, and there is even tutorial on how to do it.

And lastly, since you will have ImgBurn installed on your machine, you are free to use it with any other programs outside of DVDFab, i.e. Roxio, to burn any content created by any program you may have, as long as ImgBurn OK with it...

If I was you download ImgBurn and install it then open ImgBurn and go into Tools-Filter Drive Load Order and click Copy To Clipboard. Then reply to this thread and paste that info to it as you said you are using a roxio burning software and Roxio installs bad filters to computer that conflicts and interferes with DVD back up programs such as DVDFab. I think the filters is your problem for the bad back ups you are getting

I got more read/write errors while trying Avatar again last night. I will try now with ImgBurn installed and if that doesn't work will try the firmware update to 106C.

the filters are fine but have you done a malware/virus scan lately as that sometimes a problem as well. Malwarebytes is good to use for that and has a free version

I updated the firmware and ran a malwar/virus scan, but I am still getting read/write errors or skipping ISO playback. Would changing any of the DVD Fab read settings effect any of this? What happens when you change how many sectors to skip or how many times to re-try? I am playing around with them now but it might help if I better understood why is the skip set to 32?
