Bluray Alice in Wonderland will not copy w/o compress

I tried to backup Alice in Wonderland the 'main movie' with the 2 English audio tracks and one English subtitle. It did not require compression to fit on a 25Gb disc.

One time it froze in the Finalization process. The second time it said it had an error in burning.

    Any suggestions?

I have duel ATI Radeon 4800 graphics cards. 'DXVA GPU acceleration for video decoding enabled' comes up in the process log.

Let me know if any other information is useful.

With the ATI Radeon 4800's, I have backed up 'The Men Who Stare at Goats' from BD-50 to BD-25 and it worked with compression.

        Tattoo,
your issue is obviously not compression related, but burning. Burning log would be really helpful. What burning engine are you using? Is it VSO, ImgBurn or Nero? Please post burning log from your burning engine, provide info on your burner, media, and we'll go from there

It was the VSO engine. I've done some backups since then. Will the log still be there and what directory?

I'm not so familiar with the DMA vs. PIO mode. I uninstalled the bluray/dvd driver and rebooted. Will that reset it to DMA and how do I check to make sure?

No, please don't do it again. If you don't know or not sure of something, let us know - there is nothing to be ashamed of.
To reset DMA, please go to DVDFab setting (green circle with check mark in top right corner of DVDFab window), new window will open: General -> "Reset DMA" button on right lower side.

                    Did you installed driver back???

As usual excellent help from IPopov50
If I also may add your drive has a firmware update you will find it here
NOTE: if you do not know how to flash your drive do not do it as it will render your drive useless

After seeing this same thing on my own system, I think maybe we can start to conclude that it's the VSO burning engine "reporting" a drive in PIO mode. I don't think anybody's drive is actually running in PIO mode. Unless they're using a PC built in 2001.

Best advice being install IMGBurn or just use something like Nero as the VSO burning engine seems to be full of show stopping bugs.

Setting the AWS in Imgburn works great and is a good idea. Otherwise it will try burning at 8-10x max speed. Although I managed a few Memorex (RITEK) burns at 10x which was impressive, I coastered a few also. 4x is what you want.

this is not exactly correct. Any drive switches to PIO mode automatically after certain number of errors. Nobody really count errors and finding themselves in awkward situation like this. That's why that 'Reset DMA" button so conveniently located and mentioned in every troubleshooting guide.

Yes the driver installed back on reboot. In Imgburn, I did the reset DMA but it said there were no SATA devices that needed to be reset. I also did the max write speed of 4x in DVDFab. It worked this time w/ Imgburn but appears Imgburn used 8x max. Thanks.

These are the logs from DVDFab and Imgburn:

IPopov50 is absolutely correct after 6 CRC errors any drive will be put in PIO mode which is the slowest.

After the Windows IDE/ATAPI Port driver (Atapi.sys) receives a cumulative total of six time-out or cyclical redundancy check (CRC) errors, the driver reduces the communications speed (the transfer mode) from the highest Direct Memory Access (DMA) mode to lower DMA modes in steps. If the driver continues to receive time-out or CRC errors, the driver eventually reduces the transfer mode to the slowest mode (PIO mode).

this is not exactly correct. Any drive switches to PIO mode automatically after certain number of errors. Nobody really count errors and finding themselves in awkward situation like this. That's why that 'Reset DMA" button so conveniently located and mentioned in every troubleshooting guide.

Even if it's a little thing, do something for those who have need of help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.
