8.0.0.2 mkv.h.264.audiocopy profile doesn't work ?

Since I put other settings for this profile I make another thread hoping that someone can help and give more specific information.

source: ISO file (from BD) on HD
movie: Quantum of solace

BD to BD9 - no subtitles, no chapters

Hi forum,

I tried to copy a BD to BD9 by selecting only the main movie, 2 audio tracks and 2 subtitles.
Since I can check in the user interface 2 audio tracks and 2 subtitles I suppose that it should work...
Unfortunately, the result gives me no subtitles at all and all chapters are gone.

I did the same for 2 different movies (Quantum of Solace and the Bucket List). For both the result was as described above. I put hereunder the log files for both movies.

Can someone help ? Thx !

It seems that you filtered out from your post of the log all the things that most of the experts here would need to see such as source, destination, and your settings. The most common problem seen is that GPU acceleration is enabled and the drivers for the video card are causing a problem.

Do keep in mind that DVDFab is trying to do something that the studios don't want them to do. All of the ripping type programs are made by small companies in far off locations that do not have the resources to QA the product like a larger company might.

EDIT: Now that I have combined the threads. The correct amount of info seems to be present. Hopefully a forum member that has more experience with BD will be along shortly.

your case with mkv.h264.audiocopy isn't that difficult, and I can point you to a two issues that should fix your problem:
(1) First - 2-pass. It has known problems and I would recommend use 1-pass. Believe me, it produce as good quality as 2-pass.
(2) Second - your conversion settings. You trying to produce MKV file with "max file size: 4450 Mb" and leaving HD Audio stream.... Well, here's a news for you - HD Audio stream, in average, takes about 3-5 GB along. So, you are leaving no room for your video stream in 4450 Mb max file size. There's two things you can do about it: (a) select "Remove HD audio" and downconvert it to a core or, (b) set parameters for bitrate and leave filesize open, for DVDFab to calculate. Usually, on action movies and other fast moving content required bitrate is 8-10 Mbps. This is matter of personal preference however, and I will encourage you to experiment. Every one of us has own opinion of quality.

What a pity to merge three different threads !

DVDFab creates different products. Two of these three threads you merged were made by different DVDFab products: the first two were made by BD Ripper the third one was made with BD copy.

I sticked to the rules of this forum and posted them in the right section where they belong. You decided to merge them, now who will find them back ?

I'm testing DVDFab and that's what I MUST do following DVDFab's advice BEFORE buying.

While testing I want to report everything that goes wrong hoping that this will help developers to make a better product, so that customers will be happy AND that potential buyers will be convinced to buy.

Until now unfortunately nothing that I wanted worked correctly. May I tell this to the community, the developers, administrators and clients ? Am I testing too much or should I shut up ?

Of course I would prefer not to post everything that goes wrong, of course I would love to buy a product that works so that I can go on with the real important things in life, but it is NOT working. In fact I'm doing DVDFab a favour by testing it and report what I am experiencing. But of course I also hope that this helps to get a good product.

By making new threads I specify as good as possible which settings I used, and since every time I change something in the settings, I am using other profiles, different products, etc. I am trying to find a solution for the problems. This is not amusing to me but I'm hoping that sooner or later someone will be able to find out why nothing that I want is working.

If you understand what my objective is, you'll also understand that I did not filter information on purpose. By the way, no one asked me additional information, so I don't know what you are talking about. Please tell me what you want to know, I keep track of my tests and settings in a text file and perhaps I have the information that you need.

Like you said I'm also hoping on a quick solution. In the mean while I continue to test different DVDFab products because my trial period is running and I'll continue to post my experiences unless you administrators don't want me to.

Well Screwsy, you are right about knowing ahead and testing and so on, and you should continue you test and report them.... It would be also nice if you would know what you are doing... I would say it's a must, otherwise you are misleading people and make product looks bad and unworkable by giving it an impossible task to accomplish (i.e. squeeze HD audio into 4.5 GB max filesize - see my earlier post). And then, you are blowing smoke and make statements that's not good for anybody. I'm not telling you to shut up, I just suggesting you to make sure you are up to task before offering a help.

Thanks IPopov50 for your comments and I appreciate all help. Be sure that as soon as I can I will do new tests and post my results (positive and/or negative) so that you guys also know if there are solutions to known problems.

On the (1) point I would advice then to take out the 2-pass possibility as long as it does not work correctly. Users who test intensively these applications will sooner or later try the 2-pass because it is known that it should give a better result. Now I will try of course what you advice and see if this could be a temporary solution.

For the (2) point you are absolutely right and I should have seen this for myself, the audio is the same as source...

Now if I may propose an improvement to this product, it would be good that in this case DVDFab doesn't even start to work but that it would give a warning to the user saying that this won't work. I'm not proposing a specific text here but I'm sure you see what I mean, some kind of a "STOP" that obliges the user to change something in the settings before he is able to push the "START" button.
I will certainly do a test with the fixed bitrate as you advice and post my results.

That's exactly what happened, It didn't work, didn't even start to work...It kinda let you know to think about it... but you want a message??? I hope you are not serious...
I guess it would be nice if DVDFab would give you a message, send you a letter, a Christmas card, offer a hug and a kiss in a cheek.

Let's not mix up things. The story about hd audio on dvd5 is true, I understand it is not possible, but let's not forget all the other things that do not work. I have made a few threads already, where I have not heard a solution for.

It IS frustrating when something does not work, and this is true for everybody. I hope you can admit it and I can tell you that I am also frustrated that nothing works with DVDFab as far as my needs are.

Now for the message (your post of 03:37 pm today), I think it would be a good idea. It would save time for the newbie user (like I am), but especially for you guys because no one will write about this problem anymore. Is it a stupid idea ? Think about an e-mail that you want to send without having put a destination address, you get a message that the e-mail can not be send because there is no destination. If it's too hard to programm, I can understand that it's not feasable. But if it's not, it would be a welcome "hug" to all users.

As promised I keep you informed of my tests. What you proposed me to do works, but will not cover my needs. I want 2 audiotracks and 2 subtitles, then the video (and/or audiostreams) should be compressed to let's say 50% of the original size (e.g. 10-12 Gb).

Now for the test, here are the settings:
product: Blu-ray ripper
main movie to mkv (movie is 1:37:04)
original: entire disc on hard disc (BD The Bucket List)
audio: english
subtitles: dutch and french
profile: mkv.h264.audiocopy
fast coding 1-pass
fixed bit rate 10000kbps (7.077 mb)
resolution: 1920 x 1080

results:
task time elapsed: 1:45:51
file size: 7.564.704 kb

conclusion: the result is ok, there is indeed 1 audio track and 2 subtitles.

remarks:
- with my player (BS player) I see no chapters anymore
- final file size is bigger than indicated before ripping (less important to me, but if you want to burn a file to a dvd it IS important)
- if 2-pass does not work at the moment, why offer the possibility ?

Just for your information, the HD audio track (HD DTS/5.1) takes 2558 MB. It IS very big, but less than what you indicated as average. I know that this depends on the length of the movie.

My question: Is, what I described in my first paragraph possible with DVD Fab (possibly in combination with other products) ?
