    Burn Problem

I have the same burner and the exact same problem using the trial and the VSO Engine. It appears to mimic the problem in as well. Recode works perfect but any attempt to burn fails and I instacoaster the disc.

I sent the logs to support and they said I was in PIO mode and to reset DMA and restart the computer. I use RAID 0 drives if that makes a difference. The problem with support's suggestion is I'm able to burn your recode with other software (incl Imgburn) just fine. OP may want to install Imgburn and select Imgburn for writing with DVDfab and see if it works.

Here are the logs using cheapo Optical Quantum media. I have the same problem using Verbatim Media. Both media types burn fine with competing software. I know the temptation to say, "just use Imgburn" but I don't want to pay full price for software that is only doing half the work as I will be dependent on the continued development of both DVDfab and Imgburn. I'd like to get this problem fixed before the trial runs out. If I can get your engine is working, I'll purchase it.

Attempts #1 & 2 (using Verbatim, then Optical Quantum media):

Your problem may be similar but not the same
        Your logs say:
        2010-08-31 11:36:01 Info PIO Mode
Your drive is in PIO mode, Open Fab Click the Green top right > General > make sure Check for DMA Automatically is Checked and also Click the Reset DMA to the right and restart your computer.

        They also say:
        2010-08-31 11:38:50 Info Writing speed requested x4.0, effective x4.0
        2010-08-31 11:38:50 Info Available write speed: 4x ,2x
        2010-08-31 11:36:01 Info Writing speed requested x8.0, effective x8.0
        2010-08-31 11:36:01 Info Available write speed: 8x ,4x ,2x
Slow your burn speed to 1/2 the rated speed of your media

        Next lets talk about firmware:
        PIONEER BD-RW BDR-205 1.08 [E] (Ide)
        and HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS40 NL01 [D] (Ide)
Both of your drives have a firmware update you will find them here

NOTE: If you do not know how to flash your drives do not do it, it will render your drives useless and you can then use them as door stops

If you want to use ImgBurn it is completely up to you as most of us here use it, if you want it here it is along with a tutorial on how to set it up with Fab

Give these a try and post back

On top of the great help from CBR929 I would like to add that DVDFab does not develop the VSO Burn engine so any problems with the burning is not a DVDFab problem but a VSO Problem. DVDFab just offers the option to install VSO for those who do not have Nero or ImgBurn.

So you are actually Dependant on the continued development of DVDFab and VSO so either way you Dependant on 2 programs whether you choose to use DVDFab with VSO, ImgBurn or Nero for burn engine. Now if DVDFab works with ImgBurn for you then maybe go to the VSO forums and post burn logs over there so the VSO Developers can figure out what wrong with their program but what CBR929 said to try will probably fix you right up

I didn't realize VSO was (also) made by someone else so thanks for clarifying. Couple questions regarding DMA mode since I already tried this unsuccessfully.

            1) Is the log recording the BDR-205 as being in PIO mode or my hard drives?

            2) Since the reset didn't work, are there any other ways to enable DMA mode, perhaps a BIOS setting or a device setting? (I use Award BIOS)

            3) Is there a way I can verify my drive is set to DMA mode without risking another expensive coaster?

You can also check your drives mode by going into device manager IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers click IDE controllers advanced settings and check for DMA, if they are IDE, but make sure you check both of your IDE channels.
For Sata in the same folder IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers Serial ATA controllers click the port that has your drive on it, and also check your DMA status.
I am not sure if this helps with Windows 7 as I have Vista but, I'm sure all you have to do is find device manager in Windows 7

Hmmm... odd. I have a Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller as you said, but checking the Advanced tab on both ATA Channel 0 and 1 shows nothing listed. No checkbox to enable/disable DMA like in Vista either. I don't know if that's normal or my RAID controller is somehow interfering.

One other thing - is it odd that the VSO device is listed as "pcouffin device for AMD 64 bits systems" when I have an Intel processor? Does anyone else have it listed this way on an Intel system?

                    Nah, nothing to worry about.
AMD was the first with conventional 64-bit architecture so VSO is just seeing the 64-bit specification as AMD.
                    Same in my system...

So you're burning ok with Img, but not VSO which shows you to be in PIO mode?
Could you please post one of your Img burn logs.

I'm not sure why you're experiencing an I/O conflict with VSO.
In my limited experience with AHCI, it's much more difficult to troubleshoot DMA issues, etc., in ACHI mode than in IDE...just as you seem to be experiencing.

I had nothing but headaches in AHCI with my core i7 build last Oct.
After some research, I found users with problems on both sides of the IDE/AHCI "fence".
I'm not taking sides as to what's "better", but with my rig, AHCI was a headache.

Firstly, I'd try uninstalling your ODD's in device manager.
Windows will of course, reinstall and assign appropriate drivers.
Hopefully, this will resolve your problem.

Maybe I missed it, but are you opposed to using Img as your default burn engine?
Maybe you're like many of us and just love a good mystery...lol
