Don't understand what is going on

Hi I've made a couple of post about coping blu-rays.

First I was told to copy the full disk to my HD. Once the movie was copied I selected Main Movie and select the file from my HD. So I did that and the only thing I selected was the movie, English language, unchecked other languages, checked remove HD audio and selected 25GB/1080i disk size. I also went into the general settings and asked the program to verify the copy after conversion/writing.

For the copy source I selected main movie from my HD and the target dive was my writer.

I did all this late last night so the conversion was being done while I was asleep. When I got up this morning the program had shut down and had never written to my blank Memorex BD-R.

I don't know if the log files are valid as I have started the copy process again only this time I'm creating an ISO file.

Again this conversion is going to take 7 hours and I have another 3 hours to go. The conversion speed is 1.25 MB/s. Is this a normal speed when compressing a movie file? I would have thought that the process would be faster when everything is being copied to the HD.

Anyway if anyone can comment on my issues I would really appreciate the help.

    Thanks,
    Terry

    Hi Terry,

Yes, your speeds are abnormal for compressiing, although this process of compressing BD files does take a lot of horsepower.

You actually were told a couple of things, but without major differences, as far as time.

I generally want just the movie, so when I rip from the BD disc, I just select the Main Movie, English subtitles and the English HD audio stream (except that I strip the HD audio). I do not select Full Disc.
Your choice here, either is just fine.

Now, it seems at least, that this portion is going ok for you.

The program shouldn't have shut down unless you inadvertantly enabled this shutdown option.

Please post the logs, whether they seem valid or not.
Are the files intact from last night or were they deleted?

You can untick the delete temp files function. This might help troubleshoot.
Just remember to manually delete them later and to enable the delete function again if that's want you want.

Please compress the files again as you started to do last night only this time, again, select your hdd as the target.

Let's see what time you see with this and take another look at the logs

Sorry for the delay in getting this info to you. The log files cover Sept 13-15. I have to upload them in 2 reply post.

FYI I was successfull in copy and writing to a blank BD-R today. However this is what I to do in order to make the copy.

1st copied Full Disc to hard drive.
2nd selected Main Move and source file from HD and compressed to BD25 as an iso file on HD.
3rd selected Write Data and iso file from HD and copied to blank disc.

Success after almost 8 hours to convert and copy movie.

I hope you find these log files that might tell you what I am doing wrong. Once again thanks for all your help.

Thanks for all the info. I haven't gone over all of it yet and honestly, I'm still pretty new at BD
I swear, sometimes I just hate VSO
          You're getting a "medium" error...

          "2010-09-13 22:22:16 Warning synchronizing cache failed. Code 03 A0 80 [Medium error]"

and although you've selected the Write speed correctly at 4X, something is screwy here too.

On first glance it looks like your burner doesn't like the Ritek discs but I'm inclined to guess it's more of a problem with VSO.
Also, there may be some benefit at looking at firmware update, but don't hold your breath on it and it could be risky too.

I've read mixed reviews with this media, but before you go out and drop more $ on media, let's try Img.
I also can't speak personally to BD media since I've never burned one...lol.
I just rip 'em to a hdd and enjoy the flicks via a media player.

This also doesn't explain the inordinate amoount of time to compress BD50 ---> BD25.

          Please click on the link:
Setting Up ImgBurn and DVDFab to work together
          (in my sig below).
D/L and install Img and watch the excellent video tutorial.
Also please take the time to set up Automatic Write Speed...it's a few minutes well spent.
BTW, Img will output to .ISO as default.

I'm hopeful this will resolve all/most of your issues and I'll bet $ that you'll never go back to VSO.

In the event you still have problems, the Img logs should be more helpful in isolating the cause.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Hi thanks for getting back to me. Just a couple of things. Last night I was a able to rip to my HD and then copy right back to my external drive normally. No converting to an ISO first. It took about an hour to rip and and an hour to burn. The movie was Star Trek (The latest one).

So I'm thinking at last I've got it. Wrong I tried Law Abiding Citizen and same old problem.

Now after reading your post before I go start doing a whole lot things I thought I would mention something.

I also have loaded on my system ConvertXToDVD ver 4 which is a VSO product. I'm wondering if maybe these two programs don't like each other.

This is a brand new pc. I have been using ConvertXToDVD for a long time to convert and copy regular DVD's. I didn't buy the DVD ripping, convert and burning software from DVDFab because I already had software.

            What do think?

Congrats, at least now you're 1 for 2......and the times are as they should be.

ConvertXToDVD should play nicely and I don't believe this is the problem.
Still, I don't understand why you're now, 1 for 2, unless Law Abiding Citizen is somehow corrupt, etc. and it's just that one flick.
Let's take a look at whatever may be competing for access during your BD processing.

Once you've installed Img, on the upper toolbar, please click on
Tools > dropdown, click on Filter Driver Load Order
              and post what's displayed.

I'd still love to see what happens with Img.
Also, Img logs tend to yield better info.

Hi thanks again for the help.I'm not home right and so it will be a few hours before I can try img. Also FYI this is happening with more than just one movie.

Avatar, Iron Man, Clash of the Titans, Indiana Jones 4, Die Hard 4.

So this has been going on for a few weeks.

If you set ImgBurn and DVDFab up like it was shown in the youtube video then just use DVDFab like you normally do

Could someone guide me through the process of setting up imgburn for a blu-ray. The you tube video has no audio and it looks to me like they are setting it up for coping a dvd not a blu-ray.

                            Thanks

all you do is what is in the youtube video nothing more for both Blu-ray and DVD. Just make sure in common settings for DVDFab that you have Recommended selected for Write Speed and that you have the AWS(automatic write speed) set up in ImgBurn and youtube video shows how to do that
