How to make a movie copy from a file

I just copied a movie using Bluray-Full Disc because compressing to BD25 takes literally hours, so how do I make a copy of the movie using the file that was made? It keeps asking if I wish to overwrite the file when I'm trying to compress it to BD25. If I overwrite then I have to start making a new file all over again. What do I need to do?

Most likely, the software is alerting you to the fact that it is about to delete the files in the temporary directory.
Fab should not be deleting any other files.
What location did you "rip to" ?

I suspect that you have either unticked the box that enables
    Delete temporary files when done
or you are not clicking the Finish button at the end of the process, thereby not deleting the files.
The other possibility that comes to mind is that you're re-ripping to the same location with the same file name.
Hard to know, based on your post. If this is what's happening, change the file name or location

As you've discovered, do not compress on the initial rip from the disc.
This will create a bottleneck that will take forever and will suck the life out of your burner.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

      compression

"As you've discovered, do not compress on the initial rip from the disc.

      "

If I understand what has been posted thus far correctly, you are recommending that one copy the BD to the hard drive first then burn movie only (I suppose) from the hard drive as opposed to from the original BD. My question then becomes" "Won't the movie that has been ripped to the hard drive have to be compressed if it won't fit into a 25 Gig BD anyway?"

I'm sure that I am missing something here.

Please enlighten me for I would like to keep my BD burner in good condition, and not have "the life sucked out of it."

I have had the best luck with:
        1. rip full BR disk, no compression, to hdd as an iso file.
        2. load iso w. dvdfab virtual drive, process/compress to bd25, bd9, 5, whatever you want.
save this processed file in a folder as "processed movie 1, processed movie 2", etc.
        3. open Imgburn, and set up to burn whatever you a decided to do, BD25, BD9, etc.
I only burn BD25 and BD9's at 2X, BD5's at 4X. Great quailty and no coasters.
        SLOW IS GOOD........SLOW IS QUALITY.........
        4. If your new disk plays ok in whatever settop player you have, than delete all the files
        you have created.
I use the slow settings scanning, and processing. I want quality, not speed.
Also this process will better if you are using two hdd's. Reading from one and writing to the other. Reading and writing simultaniously to a drive is very slow.
        my two cents Stu

          Nah, you're not missing anything.
The first, critical step is...never compress from your BD drive.
Compression of a BD file is very labor intensive and is much quicker and more efficient when done hdd ---> hdd.

So, after ripping the main movie (uncompressed) to the hdd, let's say the files are too large to fit on a BD25.
Open Fab, select the just ripped files as Source, then select your burner with the blank BD25 as Target, and be certain that you have selected BD25 as the target size.
Fab will re-rip the files and burn as you would expect.

Now if the initial main movie files do not exceed the BD25 limit, simply choose Write Data mode and burn directly to a BD25. This mode will not re-rip/re-process the files in any way, but will burn directly to a BD25...
and will also create a coater if you're wrong on the size...

Slow is Good - Slow is Quality

I like "Slow is Good - Slow is Quality." It got a chuckle out of me. You're more than likely right too...

I'm currently ripping a BD to my desktop with xxx xxx. It appears the rip will take less than an hour. Is that about the time it's supposed to take?

Once that is done, I will use DVDFab's "movie only" feature to compress the 31 GB file to a 25 GB disc.

Now, here is where I'm a bit confused:

Is the conversion time supposed to take as much time as it would if DVDFab converted directly from the BD, or does it lessen the time it takes to convert the file?

I know "Slow Is Good" when it comes to burning, but it is not funny when it sometimes takes 8 hours just to compress the movie.

            What say you?

            Thanks.

Thank you. I will try this as soon as xxx xxx finishes ripping the BD file. I'll post the results.

I now understand that what you meant about the burner being sucked out of its life (or something to that effect) was that it won't be involved in the conversion process. Did I get this right?

Alright, this is what I did. I ripped BR movie IP Man using BD50 and when it finished, instead of putting in a BD disc I pressed finished and save which sent it to DFAD fulldisc file. Now since I want to put it to a BD25 I should be able to open-up full disc file which would put the movie in the source block and then change disc from BD50 to BD25 and press start but when I do this "Do you want to overwrite" comes up, so what am I doing wrong???? Can someone please let me know?

The problem is that you have the Temporary Directory set as the same spot for your Output directory. Change the Temporary directory to a different spot on Hard drive and that will not happen. To do that go to common settings-General and change the Temp directory

Ok, I did what was suggested, changed temp directory, made up a movie folder on desktop, went thru process again and still it is taking hrs to copy a movie. i started IP MAN last nite and it just finished 30 min ago over 12hrs. i obviously am doing something wrong but do not know what plus the disc apparently has nothing on it after going thru the process for hrs.
