    Processing Time in 64 bit Windows 7

    I am using DVDFab to compress a Blu-ray movie only from BD50 to BD9. I first rip the full disc to the hard drive, and then compress the movie only to BD9. I am doing this on an AMD Athlon 64 dual core processor with 4 GB RAM in Windows 7, 32 bit. The compression process takes roughly 5 hours on my machine. I was wondering if it would shorten the processing time by switching to 64 bit Windows 7 and adding more RAM. Right now, 32 bit Windows 7 says only 3.25 GB of the 4 GB installed RAM is usable. I don't want to go through the expense of an octo-core processor, or anything like that. But I have a 64 bit version of Windows 7 available, and RAM is pretty cheap right now. However, it's pretty painful to reinstall Windows 7, 64 bit, from scratch, and I don't want to go through the trouble unless I can get a big savings in processing time.

    Well, I have windows 7 64bit,core i7@3,5ghz ,6gb ram and the compression to bd9 takes an hour.The gpu is the one that makes the compression really fast,I have one nvidia gtx260
    and so I enable cuda decoder and encoder.Without cuda is the compreesion would take 2 hours so. Check if you have a strong nvidia gpu which support cuda.
    If you want to speed up you can use a gpu like nvidia GT200 series or a nvidia fermi gpu like gtx 460.

      The only way upgrading your RAM and OS would affect DVDFab is if you're using a lot of memory already and memory usage is at 100%, then maybe. But otherwise, 3.25 gig of RAM is probably enough. As LignGeorge said, look into upgrading your video card to an nvidia, preferably a gtx series, either 200 or 400. I also have a gtx 260 core 216 sc and I couldn't be happier. Go to newegg and pick a card in your price range.

        Excellent advice from LignGeorge and Racem22.
        Although CUDA acceleration is still a work in progress (and it will continue to improve), a higher-end CUDA supported NVIDIA card will yield a decent bang for your buck.
        I have the exact same card as Racem22 and as he put it, I couldn't be happier.

        As you know, a more robust cpu will help a great deal, but you're looking at some serious $ by the time the smoke clears.

        Skip the RAM unless it's max'd out as already advised.

          I have a Nvidia GE Force 9400GT, which I bought a couple of years ago. I don't know anything about CUDA, but I will do some research on it. Does anybody know a model of a Nvidia card that will give me a good "bang for the buck" compared to what I already have? Or is the 9400GT good enough?

            not meaning to dump on someone's hardware, but a 9400gt isn't much for a video card. While this isn't a hardware forum, you need to find out if your m/b will even support a video card like what is being discussed. If you only have an early am2 m/b, there is no sense in installing: minimum in my mind: 9800GTX+ which equals a GTS250, or go on up to a GTX260. Ebay is your friend, 9800's can be has for $70, gtx260's for $120.
            again check w/ someone about your m/b. without pci express 2.0, these cards are a waste.

              Well, if its a geforce 9400, I'm sure its a pci express, so he can install whatever video card he wants to. He could go all out and get a geforce gtx 480 if he wanted. It all depends on what he wants to spend. Check out newegg.com for good deals.

                I have to say the Video cards is the answer. I upgraded to an Nvidia Verio with cuda and I couldnt be happier. Of course I'm runnin vista and AMD quad core 3.2ghz cpu and only 2gbs of ddr3 ram and havent really had problems.

                    OK. I am getting the message loud and clear that I need a new video card. I have seen a few suggestions, for which I thank the responders.

                    Given that I have a XFX nForce 750a SLI motherboard, and I would like to spend between $75 and $150 on a new video card, what would be some suggestions in my case?
