    BR Audio Question

I'm backing up my Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City and I notice that there's three audio fields, PCM/2, AC-3/5.1, and AC-3 True. Should I select every one of these? Or do I just need the first two? One thing that I noticed is that AC-3 seemed to add another 10gb of data, so I was hesitant to exclude it. Further, when all three were selected, DVDfab would not initiate scanning. Only when I deselected one of the audio fields would it start scanning.

Also, the second disc of this concert only has PCM/2 audio. Not sure what that means other than maybe that's the primary BR audio field?

I suppose I'd like to save hard drive space by excluding an unnecessary field, but I also suppose that including all three gives the most flexibility depending on how you choose to output your audio down the road.

    Any input is appreciated.

Well, I believe the AC-3 True is actually the Dolby TrueHD track, which is the HD audio. I'm not sure what you want to keep, but on the BDs I rip I only keep the HD audio and discard everything else. For the other tracks, if it says AC-3/5.1, that means its 5.1 channels, PCM/2 is 2 channels, etc.

PCM and AC3 True are both Lossless audio...PCM is only in stereo and AC3 True is 5.1

You kinda gotta pick which one you'd prefer...some audiophiles prefer a stereo audio sound while others might like a surround sound.

You can read bluray reviews for the disc and see what the reviewer has to say on it... but technically they are similar, just PCM is stereo @ 48KHz the other is Dolby TrueHD 5.1 @ 96 KHz. (unlikely you'll notice the difference)

      You don't need AC3/5.1.

crackinhedz, thanks a lot, that is just what I was looking for. And thanks for the great resource on BR reviews. I will definitely use that in the future.
