burning not enough space

Hi sarbare78,

For your problem, please try the following steps to see if the problem can be fixed:

1) Upgrade to the latest beta version 8.0.5.3 at

2) Click the round green icon button with a check mark at the right top corner of the DVDFab screen, open "Common Settings" window in the upper right corner of DVDFab main screen, click on "General", click on "Reset DMA";

3) Use "Main Movie" mode to shrink your original movie materials to hard drive again. Open common settings window, click "write", and make sure that you have set the writable media size as 4300 for DVD5 before you start to compress.

First of all, when it comes to using a brand of media, stick with using either Taiyo Yuden (the very best brand when it comes to Blank DVD-R 4.7GB x4 or x8) or Verbatim DVD-R 4.7GB discs. Second, your Windows XP should be at Service Pack 3 not 2. Third, you should be using DVD-R not DVD+R because with DVD-R discs, you do not need to over burn since it can hold ~6.6mb more than a DVD+R disc. Your problem is not the DVD burner drive, it's more than likely the discs your are using. The "Low Block Address out of Range" error you keep getting when using Imgburn means that there are no more sectors on the disc to write on. Use DVD-R blank media, not DVD+R and update your DVD burner drive's firmware. You can go to and look at your DVD drive model number and search to see if there is an update to your DVD drive. Also, make sure you update to the latest version of DVDFab to v8.0.5.3 Beta. Also, reset the DMA by doing the following: Click the round green icon button with a check mark at the right top corner of the DVDFab screen, open "Common Settings" window in the upper right corner of DVDFab main screen, click on "General", click on "Reset DMA". Glad to hear that you had a great Thanksgiving. My family and I did as well.
Sorry you're having trouble.

This should be an easy one.
Firstly, Fab is not compressing this flick correctly and is giving Img a hard time....probably due simply to outdated decrypting.

Is this the only movie that's giving you trouble?

Please do as Anny suggested and update to 8053 Beta...link above.

Do nothing else at this point.
Hopefully, you won't have to do anything else.

Now rip the movie to your hdd (select a location on your hdd as the Target) and be certain you have selected DVD5 as output size.
Please post back with the file size of these "ripped" files.

Also post the setting you have for
Common Settings > DVD / Blu-ray > Write >
Writable Media (DVD-5) Size
Given your media, your setting should be about 4472 MB, no larger.

If your ripped file size is larger than this, then Fab is still stumbling and not handling the compression accurately.
This was why Anny suggested 4300MB...to ensure a successful burn to SL media...
but, you shouldn't have to do this.

While I agree with the advice that Taiyo Yuden are the best quality SL media (Verbs with the AZO Dye label are good too),
it is total rubbish to bash +R media.

The difference in size...about 6.95 MB, depending on one's math, only represents a small fraction of even a tiny AC-3/5.1 audio stream, let alone any portion of the video.
This difference won't come close to fixing the "size problem" and changing to -R does not address the cause of the problem.

I happen to prefer +R media and believe the advantage of bitsetting to DVD-ROM, far outways anything else.
But, I am not about to resurrect the war between -R and +R.
Nothing wrong with -R...I've burned 100's, maybe 1000's with good results.
Likewise with +R.
I've burned 1000's of YUDEN000 T02 000 (8X +R)...love 'em.

I do not recommend flashing your burner's firmware at this time.
While it's a good idea to try and stay current, if you don't know what you're doing or if something goes wrong...you've probably "bricked" your burner.
Moreover, I don't believe it's related to your current problem.
HP has pretty good stuff, but has horrible firmware support.

I have a bunch of DVD-R but when my old comp went out I bought my sister-inlaws old HP. It is not setup to burn DVD-R. I found that out when I started burning disc. Maineman actually pointed that out to me. Because I couldn't burn on them and was not sure why.
Thanks everyone for the help. I DL the new version and now everything is working fine. I'll keep you posted

Don't use DVD-Rs, use DVD+Rs and booktype to DVD-ROM for best compatibility. Google

to find out how. Also, I would suggest using Imgburn(free burning program) to burn your

discs for best results. If you do get DVD-Rs, stick with the Taiyo Yudens like my friend

maineman suggested. If going for DVD+Rs, stick with Verbatim with the Azo dye.
