    Device buffer

    hi all

Just a quick question. I was backing up a DVD today and when image burned cut in the device buffer was 100%. Halfway through the burn it went down to nothing and state their. The copy was fine, but as well as that problem, soon as the disc came out of the drive I got a blue screen saying something about windows had to shut down to protect itself and then something to do with memory dump. I hope someone can help me with this as I've not seen this before. Thank you in advance for your advice.

ps hopefully on holiday Wednesday bloody snow

This is purely a guess on my part but it may be a hdd issue, possibly starting to fail OR trying to transfer data to/from the hdd during the write process was a bit much for it.

Be sure not to multitask during the write process.

Good guess and solid advice by W&B.
Have you looked at windows memory dump?

Often you'll see dips in the device buffer as the burner recalibrates the laser power,
but you should't see a flat line or a bsod

What kind of shape is your hdd in?
      Full?
      Have you defragged lately?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
