    Failure to Burn

Having trouble trying to burn the movie Piranha using DVD to DVD. Everything goes ok until it comes times for the burn. I have tried several times and I even unistalled and reinstalled the program, but I keep coming up with failure to burn. Here are some notes from the log sessions. Sorry if I sound like I'm dumb, but I've never run into this problem before

    Thanks Carl

Some other software has locked your burner preventing the burn engine from using it.

      Task_2 failed! Error=111

      Hi W.Carl,

Please try following these steps to see if the problem can be fixed:

      1) When you copy and burn movie DVDs with DVDFab, please disable all the other background tasks in your windows task manager;
      2) Make sure all programs that use auto play are disabled.

      Best regards,

          Hi W. Carl
Try updating your your OS from SP2 to SP3, as you are light years behind.
You may also give ImgBurn a try to see if it will work, you will find it here along with a tutorial on setting it up with Fab http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=33 remember to set up the AWS in ImgBurn and your burn speed to 1/2 the rated speed of your media.
          Hope this helps

Please do not disable/end "all the other background tasks in your windows task manager."

You can safely close/end all tasks in your Task Manager under the Applications tab.
            If you decide to end the background tasks that run under the Processes tab you may do so as well, but please keep in mind that ending these processes;
            services.exe
            explorer.exe
            wininit.exe
            and a few others,
will shut down your PC immediately and without a warning.

                Try this Carl:

                1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
                2. Locate and then click the following entry in the registry:
                HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutorun
                3. Right-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun, and then click Modify.
                4. In the Value data box, type 0xFF to disable all types of drives. Or, to selectively disable specific drives, use a different value as described in the "How to selectively disable specific Autorun features" section.
                5. Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.
                6. Restart the computer.

                      Failure to burn

This is getting frustrating. I've updated to SP 3 and tried to redo, I still get failed to burn. I tried to install Imgburn, but I'm not having any luck. What else is there left to do?

I had no problem with this release 2 weeks ago when I bought it so follow what is listed below to set ImgBurn to work with DVDFab as that what I used to burn

Set DVDFab to use ImgBurn burn engine and recommended speed
                        1. Click Common Settings in the upper right corner
                        2. Click the Write Tab under DVD / Blu-ray
                        3. Select ImgBurn Burn Engine
                        4. Select Recommended Write Speed [only for use with ImgBurn Auto Write Speed]
                        5. Select OK and restart DVDFab to apply the changed settings
                        Setting Up ImgBurn
Hello and welcome to another of my legendary guides *cough* In this one I'll be explaining how to use the new 'Automatic Write Speed' feature found in versions 2.2.0.0 onwards. 1. Insert your blank dvd media
                        2. Click Write Mode from the EZ-Mode Picker
                        3. Select AWS as your Write Speed
                        4. Click Change Automatic Write Speed
                        5. Select the desired Write Speed
                        6. Click Add
                        7. Set the AWS for each brand/mid of blank media you will use. You may also select different write speeds for multiple burning drives.
                        8. Click OK
Then just copy and burn as usual.
DVDFab will automatically open ImgBurn and automatically Close when the burn is finished.

Note: When burning a Dual Layer DVD, ImgBurn will present you with a Create Layer Break window. Select the best layer break according to the colored stars. You can even preview the layer break to ensure the transition will not interfere with your movie.

According to this log, your current firmware version is 14 (VL14), and the latest version is 18 (VL18)
so you might want to consider an update.

Here's the latest Firmware (version 18) for your computer's Optical Drive that does the burning part:

Please download it and install it.

Let's hope that this helps you.

AGJ: Thanks for your help, but I am still lost. I tried again and followed your instructions in the Imgburn when I got to step 8, you said to click ok. I did that! Then you said to copy and burn, this is where I get lost. At that point where am I. Am I at DVDfab or Imgburn. I'm sorry to be such a pain in the butt. but people like me are not computor smart and need all the help we can get. Is there anything else that Ican look at that can give me step by step instructions to help me? Thanks - Carl

Once you finished step 8 you can close down ImgBurn and then use DVDFab like you always do but from now on instead of using the VSO burn engine DVDFab will open ImgBurn and use that to burn to blank media. DVDFab will as well close ImgBurn when the burning is finished and give you the usual notice. If you decide to use the VSO burn engine again you can just go into common settings of DVDFab again and change the burn engine being used back to VSO
