    Tiling and Freezing Trouble

I recently updatated (modified) my DVDFab8 on 2/25 to the v8.07.3 version, and it now 'seems' that every movie I've dowloaded and burned is tiling and freezing at the same point in each movie -- like the last 3-5 chapters. Three different movies have done this, 127 Hours and Conviction, and an 80's movie Dead of Winter. I've tried three different types of discs (TDK, Memorex, and Phillips 8x) but it happens on all three so I'm convinced it's not the DVD player or the discs.

Question is, I don't know if this problem is occurring because of DVDFab8 upon making the copy, or with my Roxio Creator DE 10.3 upon burning to disc.

I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions as I'm getting tired of watching more than 3/4s of a movie, only to have it do this at the most crucial points and not being able to watch the ending. Thanks so much.

This easy to answer it because of Roxio Creator. Why not use DVDFab for the copy and burn to see results as we can not help you with a problem that is with Roxio.

If after you use DVDFab for entire process and still same issue then post the Internal and Burn log file but I not think you have to do that

I did not know it was possible to burn the movie onto a disc from DVDFab8. Please, instruct how to do this. If I don't have to use Roxio to make the disc copy, that would be great.

Figured it out! Thanks so very very much. Never knew I could do it this way and it worked. The movie plays fine so it must have been a problem with the Roxio program.

            Many thanks again.

Also for those blank media you use should make sure you set the burn speed to half the rated speed that the media is. So if says it 16X set the burn speed to 8x

You should actually read the first post better as this member is refering to using DVDFab to download the movie to the computer hard drive from original DVD and then use Roxio to burn to blank media.

Just curious, why? I've been doing it all along on 16x with no problems. Is it a better quality perhaps using 8x??

It reduces your chances of burn errors.
You're using a variety of blank MIDs, so a safe burn speed is 1/2 the max rated speed of the media.
If you were using Verbatim 16X with AZO Dye (assuming an appropriate burner & firmware), I'd recommend 12-16X.

Heck, I've burned them at 18X with excellent results.
I still set the burn speed at 12X though.
Does it really matter if it takes 4 1/2 minutes vs. 3...?

Better yet, I hardly burn at all. Just rip 'em to hdds and watch 'em on my media player...

Like regnad kcin said since you are using a variety of blank media it is best to use a safe burn speed as the blank media you chose to use are not too good and can give you more coasters if you burn at the max speed.

Not much of a time difference for the burn speed but does save you money in the long run

Interesting, ok, I'm a relative newbie to this sort of stuff. What are "coasters? Or are you being funny by suggesting if there is a lot of wasted discs then can onlybe used under drinks?

I've never adjusted the speed before, but I notice it is currently set at "Recommended" in "Write Speed." Should I change it? My burn time is usually around 8-10 minutes, not 3 or 4 as someone suggested. Should it not take that long?????

Also, I always used DVD-R discs (usually Memorex), but just noticed that the last spool I bought I actually got DVD+R. Will this make a difference, and just what exactly is the difference?

Yup, coasters are junked discs. We're not really trying to be funny, it's just the term has been around forever and I'm sure you're right...
whoever coined the term was poking fun.

I don't recall you saying, but I'm guessing you're using the default burn engine, VSO.
This is the one that comes "bundled" with the trial or retail application of Fab.

In this case, do not select recommended.
Better that the user should have control over the burn function than the software.
VSO will usually default to max...a bad idea.

When using VSO, select the burn speed as suggested by us above, 8X.

Now, most of us old timers with Fab use Img as the default burn engine.
If so, you would indeed select recommended and then utilize Img's Automatic Write Speed function
                            ...a wonderful little utility.

Burn speed varies but 8 to 10 minutes is good as the speed differs depending on the blank media used and the dye that was used on the media. If you have DVD+R media you may want to booktype to DVD-Rom and can be set up in common settings of DVDFab. As well may need to make sure you burner supports booktyping but most DVD players now can play DVD+R media
