Unable to burn SL discs

Ever since upgrading to v8.0.8.5, I have been unable to burn SL discs. I've tried using discs made by 3 different manufacturers, tried three different burners, and two different burning engines. I've also tried turning off my anti virus software, and reduce the burn speed to 4X.

Everything thing seems to go fine until I put a blank disc into the burner. It appears the software writes the lead-in but never goes beyond that point... no matter how long I leave it in the burner. (There is no problem when the backup requires a DL disc.)

In any case, here's a copy of a recent log. As you can see, I aborted the process after about an hour of burn attempt.

Your media is fine...the burn speed might be a tad slow... you also might want to get your hands on a current copy of Imgburn (a freebie on the web), and set it up per instructions found in this forum...

All of which leaves your TSST drive... if you have any warranty left, I'd take your lappy back to where you bought it, and complain about the crappy drive they installed.

I also noted you have another drive (half-height, I hope) attached via USB... I'd strongly consider using that drive as your full-time read/burn drive... as even if the store you bought your lappy from replaces the TSST drive, the heat generated by a lappy will eventually do in whatever they replace it with.

A tad slow is an understatement! I've left the burn process continue for more than 10 hours before I aborted it at 3% complete!

Actually, I have been using the external USB drive (LG GE24LU20) to both read and write for the very reason you bring up (heat).

I might be willing to try Imgburn as a last ditch attempt, but I suspect it won't be any more successful than using VSO or Nero in conjunction with this version of DVDFab.

I have a work-around, but it involves NOT using DVDFab. And that would be a shame considering DVDFab has served me well for several years.

Can you post any other logs with your burn attempts?
With advice already given have you checked the power cables and or tried to use a different usb port.
Also have you tried to just watch a movie with it to see if it has any problems with playback.

No need to show more logs. Using IMGburn in conjunction with DVDFab works for Single Layer burns.

I wonder why both VSO and Nero, used in conjunction with DVDFab, suddenly started failing to burn SL discs? (DL media never did present a burn problem.)
