DVD with region problems

I'm at region 4 and borrowed a dvd with a rare movie, the dvd played normal in my dvd player before i burned and it was already a region 4 dvd. Since I had to return the dvd to my friend I did a backup copy for myself using DVD Fab, but then when I tested the copy on the dvd player it didn't play due to region restrictions and when I put the original one it had showed the same problem. Now any of then play in any of my dvd players or computers and I have no clue of how it happened. And I have to return the dvd to my friend and it won't played. Anyone knows what happened? How can I reverse what happened to the dvd I borrowed?
