But the low write speed can also indicate that your burner does not feel very good with the brand of discs.

DMA=Direct Memory Access

This process allows for an application to access the memory directly for the necessary data, rather than request the CPU to get it, along with all the info the CPU will need to find it, then wait while the CPU locates it, drags it across the data bus, checks the CRC value against the one calculated when the data was written, and if OK, then moves it back along the data bus again to the CPU buffer, then it signals the application that the data is ready, and the application then goes through the same process getting the data from the CPU buffer.

All this while that blank DVD is spinning under the write head of your burner... a good formula for error creation.

There is an old saw that says 'you get what you pay for'. And it's very true. TDK discs are made predominately by Ritek, and are NOT the top of the line blanks. The fact that they've worked in the past is no guarantee that they'll continue to work in the future. Burning discs like these at MAX. speed is simply inviting problems (and giving you a good start to your coaster factory), and should be avoided.

We usually recommend burning at 50% of the rated disc speed (even for top-of-the-line discs, such as Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden).

And Gummigutta's advice is well taken too... your burner may not like TDKs. Have you tried any other brands?
