I find it hard to believe thats all thats running on startup, have you looked into your Startup Folder,Start, Run, " Msconfig" "Startup Tab." ?
As I said I know what Im doing. I built this system (Desktop), so I disable all the crap from startup tab in MS config.
Theres also only 2 things under the startup folder (which I have already mentioned).

I have 40GB of HDD space left on my boot drive, nero is disabled on startup.
Like with lots of apps doing same task, I apply same rule, whats the point in having aload of programs loading up when I start windows. If I want an app to load, then I will click its icon, .

Apparently Norton auto adds it to whitelist as the insight scan is good.
However I will check this tommorow, its very late here and I have to be up for work in 8 hours.

If there are, they represent (necessary) missing chipset drivers that you need to make the drive work properly.

If not... I'd give a good hard look at Norton Antivirus as a possible cause for your current problem... Norton has proven to be an frequent offender in the past...

Not a solution, but at least a starting point for investigation...

      DC

Nope Device manager is perfect, I wouldnt stand for exclamation / question marks. I would hunt down the missing driver, .

If norton is the offender then I would be gutted, cause I aint dumping it.
Never had something not run before / not work, this is the first time.

        Ugh!!!
I received the email informing me of the latest DVDFab version 8.1.1.2 available for download. I just downloaded and intalled it without anything out of the ordinary happening. I tried reading 2 different titles and I'm in the same boat that FOL is in... gets stuck reading the disc and I have to force close the program.

I was using the previous version (8.0.5.2 -- I think) and I was not having any issues AT ALL. I updated to 8.1.1.2 and now it won't even read the disc.

I would be really surprised if the problem lay in my cpu setup, as I don't have anything on my desktop that most other people don't.

@Chameleon-- I am also running a newer desktop with Windows7 64bit that has about 750 GB of free space out of a 1TB HDD. Other than DVD Shrink, there isn't any other software that would be in conflict with it unless Microsoft Office products would be suspect :-)
btw... there might be plenty of people having the same problem, but they're just observing the posts hoping for a solution instead of flooding the thread just to show that there are (x) amount of people having the problem. Anyway, I'd be willing to bet that there will be a lot of people flooding this thread tomorrow when they're trying to backup their new releases that they just picked up. Just sayin'

I found that I still had version 8.0.8.0 installed. works fine. I did not change anything, but this version has been on my cpu since before I updated the Qt version 8.1.1.2
...don't know if it would've worked if I had installed it after the update.

I uninstalled 8.1.1.2 and re-installed 8.0.8.5 and it seems to work fine.

I have on my laptop I use purely for work (business trips and pcb designing) DVDFab 6.1.2.0, which ofcourse works.

I will try and update that to the latest release and see what happens, as its virtually the same setup as my home coding PC.

Mentioning office, I have recently moved from Office 2000 to 2007. Im also sure I had a version of 7 or 8 at one point on my home PC working. I could have a hunt around for my old acronis backup ups, I should be able to restore the dvdfab folder from that and see which versin I had working.

On a side note, mine does'nt get stuck, but it ignores thr disc completely.

Well I uninstall V6 on my laptop (never actually used it) and installed latest Qt version and it works perfect.

Now if it was not to work on anything, I would expect it not to work on my laptop as that has all different types apps and tools all over it.
The only real difference is Office. My laptop as my old Office 2000 isntalled.
Same OS, same updates, same norton, same steam.

I will try and uninstall my office 2007, see if it is that.

I uninstalled DVD Fab 8 and Passkey and reinstalled QT. Here's what's running when I do DVD Fab QT with a regular store bought DVD.

HOWEVER, when I put in a burned DVD (with no copy protection, just a regular burned DVD+R), the program seems to recognize it and opens it. Has anyone else tried this? Maybe it's a glitch where if it hits copy protection, it freaks out.

Also, I should note that I get the same error messages (disc loading, not opening, Graphics Driver message) on my laptop which is running Windows 7. The previous versions of DVDFab 8 work fine.

NOTE: It still gave me the following message (posted the original screen from the last post) when installing it - I chose "no":

                  8.1.1.2 Won't read diks ... 8.0.8.6 Will

Well read through several pages of this stuff after two new dvd's would not back up.

Installed 8.1.1.2 on advice of support to try and sort a rip to wmv prob, which it 90% has though still throws up and error message at the end.

Tried backing up hall pass with 8.1.1.2 no go wont read

Tried backing up The Rite with 8.1.1.2 no go wont read

Just tryingThe Rite with 8.0.8.6 read disk no probs now trying backup will post back

Why isn't it simpler to simply roll back your computer with System Restore?

Problem is I have everything working on my current setup except 1 program (DVDFab). Not even the version I had working works, so even if I had not disabled the evil that is system restore, I still wont be able to use any version past 6.

I think the forums are starting to light up like a Christmas tree, if you browse the threads, theres lots and lots of people having issues with Qt, yet people on here try to dismiss it.

Bottom line is, I cant use my laptop for DVDFab, its a work tool and has always been for the last 2 years.
I want to use my main PC, like I always used to.

This is a shot in the dark a few suggestions.

                        1) Open Fab Click the Green top right > General > make sure Check for DMA Automatically is Checked and also Click the Reset DMA to the right click OK and restart Fab.
                        2) Open Fab Click the Green top right > Protection > Path Player click Disable Path Player click OK restart Fab and try again, just remember to set it back to Always Enabled.
                        3) Open Fab Click the Green top right > DVD/ Blu-Ray > Drives make sure that your drive has a check mark in the box.

                        Hope this helps

Ive already done that from a previous post of yours, still no go.
Last thing I will do is uninstall Office 2007.

I think there should be a non Qt version.
I found 20 to 30 threads relating to issues like this, just in my first 10 mins looking around different threads.
This is why I got annoyed when someone replied basically saying "its only a few of you, so who cares".

Sigh, my post in another thread was deleted, I simply commented that the guy had exactly same error code as me and it was deleted, .

Log looks the sames the 8.1.1.2Qt log.

Another insteresting fact, ccCleaner doesnt remove all the reg entries for dvdfab.
Plus you have to run it about 3 or 4 times, to get rid of most of it.
                            Hi Fol
Another software that I use to uninstall and remove registry entries is Revo you will find it here
I use the advance mode, but on the last step make sure that you open and check the BOLD folders, one time I almost deleted my DVD Fab keys.

Another you could try is to change the drive letter of your drive, I know yours is not B, but a few months ago members were having problems because their drive letter was B, and changing it solved the problem.
                            Hope this helps

So, this is what DVDfab shows after it fails to read a disc. Would the fact that my drive is a BD-Rom/DVDRW have anything to do with it??
