    Thanks.
Unfortunately, the info posted on hp's website is of no use, except to tell us that the burner has hp firmware.
I've never been a fan of their firmware, but they put out pretty decent desktops and lappies.

As W&B said, slimline burners are flakey at best, but hey, that's what comes in lappies.
And this thing was working just fine. It'd be a stretch to think it went belly up at the same time you swapped media,
but nothing surprises me with this stuff.

I was going to ask you for this info, but the burn logs will give us the actual model of the burner and the MID (media ID)
of both the Maxells and the Verbs.
So we'll wait for you to post the logs.

I'm still suspicious of the bitsetting in Fab and it's not clear to me that you tried to bitset using Img and not Fab.
There's a good chance your burner is a LiteOn...in which case I can't figure out for the life of me, why it's not changing the booktype (bitsetting).
But heck, we don't even know if this will fix the problem...

Take a look at these attachments for bitsetting in Img
    On attachment #1
First click on Mode to get out of EZ picker mode.
    Next click on Write.
Finally, click on the little book icon on the lower right.

This should bring up attachment #2

I'm just going to throw this out there and honestly it makes no sense even to myself but laptop internal burners are flaky at best. Why it would burn a disc that is playable on a computer and not a stand alone has me stumped and I'm hesitant to suggest buying an external but if possible can you borrow one from someone to troubleshoot with? Other than that I have no idea what it could be, Verbatim's are great media but out of curiosity what is the MID of those verbs reported by ImgBurn?

No, they are not RWs, they are DVD+R's.

I'm guessing it's still the same, but I don't know for sure as I have never really used Fab's bitsetting.
I've generally used modified firmware or outside utilities like LiteOn's 1.0.4.

What make/model burner are you using?

Could you please post a burn log?

If you're able, please post one each from VSO and Img.

    he default location is:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log

I'm guessing you don't have a burn log of one the Maxell burns by any chance?

Who knows, you may be right about the verbs?
It would be extremely odd that your lappie and/or player don't like the verbs, but stranger things have happened
It is a HP Pavilion Laptop and this is the drive as described on HP's website for my model : Optical drive type
LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support

Also, you are right that I do not have a log for the Maxells but here is what I am going to do. I have put the laptop away for the night (enough is enough LOL) but I have two more DVDs that I want to back up so tomorrow I'll try once more with one of the Verbatims and assuming I have the same result I will also burn a copy with one of the Maxells and I will post both logs for you to look over. Thanks.

Yes, I set up both brands of discs as instructed in the tutorial. And since my last post I have created two more coasters. However, I have at least concluded that my problem likely has nothing to do with the IMG Burn settings because I used the burner that came with my laptop for the first one with the same result. In both attempts however I did check off the Set Booktype To DVD-ROM box and it did not make any difference. I guess for some unexplained reason my laptop just doesn't like Verbatim discs. Thanks again for everyone's help.

This I understand BUT I have never had that box checked before and I have backed up in excess of 100 of my DVDs ALL on DVD+R media and up until now they have all played on all three of my DVD players without any problems, so obviously my players do play DVD+R. Even the ones I did on my new laptop played fine on them all until I switched DVD brands. This is where my problem began. Thanks again.

Ok thanks, I'll try it. I read up on it on the website and I have a general understanding of what it is now but the thing I can't understand is, while I have not had it checked, why would one brand work okay and not the other?
