    Please help

    Hello everyone!

I have been using DVDFab for a while now with no problems at all since all I typically do is clone DVDs. Suddenly I had an issue with my drive and replaced it with one that I got from a friend. It also failed to clone disks, always failing in the middle of writing. I then purchased an external HP 8X DVD +/-RW Burner with dual layer capability.

I have tried using the DVDFab internal burning software, VSO, Nero and IMGBurn. All of them failed except for the first time I tried to clone a movie with the external burner and it worked. Since then it continues to fail on the burn. After several attempts at using IMGBurn after following the instructions on how to configure it and DVDFab to work with each other, I was watching the log and it seems to allways fail when it starts to try and write to layer 1. I have also noted that IMGBurn does not prompt me for a Create Layer Break on these failed burns as it did on the one that did succeed.

Currently I am using DVDFab 8.1.7.8 with IMGBurn 2.5.7.0.

Link to a screen shot of IMGBurn erroring out:

I tried another burn just to get the IMGBurn log:

Check in common settings and make sure this box is not checked, if not checked in clone mode it should retain the original layer break. Make sure your blanks are +R, -R layer break is preset and can't be changed. Attachment:

Also it looks like you are using 4x blanks you might want to slow the write speed to 2/2.4x

      Hi jhunsinger
Along with the advise given by my friend 90312, try switching to a different media.
Verbatim DVD+R are the recommended media for dual layer disc's.

Have you been using Moser Baer DL media consistently?
        From your log:
I 19:04:00 Destination Media Type: DVD+R DL (Disc ID: MBIPG101-R10-65)

Sorry, to be the bearer of bad news, but these DL's are crappy quality (mediocre if you're lucky).
Recommend you pick up some Verbatim +R DL media.

Hopefully, this will do it for you.

Thank you very much. I will try all of the above suggestions and see how it does for me.

@maineman: Yes, I have actually used several spools of Memorex +/-Rs and RWs in the past with only an occasional failure. But I am going to try to switch to the Verbatim +Rs if I can find them. So far no luck locally, I might have to resort to ordering them online. Again, thanks for the suggestions and I will let yall know how it goes.
