    Error=400

    Hey all,
I just downloaded the trial version of DVDFab and after successfully copying one DVD to my network attached hard drive (The Emperor's New Groove) all subsequent DVDs fail with the message, "Reading/Writing Error=400" The only options I'm given at that point are to retry or abort, pressing retry does nothing and pressing abort... ummmm, aborts the whole process. It's a bit frustrating and I'm hoping someone here can offer me a solution.

If it helps any, what I want to do is copy my DVDs to my NAS. Straight copy of the entire DVD, no compression. And like I said, it worked perfectly for the first DVD and now doesn't work at all.

Here's the info asked for in the "Help Us Help You" post.

Depending on the nature of the problem, it can help to know:
    • If this happens with all discs or just one
      All discs so far.
    • Your operating system/CPU/memory configuration
      Windows 7 64bit/Intel Core2 Quad6600 2.40GHz/4GB RAM
    • If you are using external hard drives or optical drives
Network attached storage devices (ReadyNAS NV+ with 4TB space)
    • If you have made any recent changes to your OS or system hardware
Fresh install of the OS three days ago.
    • If you have other DVD or BD software installed, particularly if recently added
      VLC media player, that's it.

The logs are very small, so I'm including them within this post.

    Hmmmmm... Funny one.

Error 400 is a "transcode" error which should occur when you are compressing.

    I would do the following:

    1. make absolutely certain that you have DVD9 selected at the bottom so that no compression occurs.
    2. Inspect the disk surface for scratches/fingerprints and clean & polish anyway.
    3. Rip to a local drive, not the NAS.

Please let us know the results.

      I had done that already.

      Also, done before my post.

Amazingly, this seems to be the answer, although I'm left befuddled since the first DVD ripped perfectly fine across my network and I never had issues in the past with other software.
To make matters even more confusing, I am now transcoding the DVD on the local hard drive into a compressed XBox360 compatible file. I attempted to do this across the network but the transcoding wouldn't work. DVDFab would do the re-encoding in 10 seconds and insist that everything had finished properly and leave me with nothing but a 6Kb file. However, working locally seems to have fixed this issue also.

I would like to find a solution for using DVDFab across the network since all my movies need to be on the ReadyNAS so my other machines can access them. I'm loathe to rip everything locally, then transcode them locally and then have to copy them to my network drive and erase them from my local drive. That seems rather silly, especially since DVDFab worked perfectly the first time.

      Any suggestions?

I have run across this problem with UNC pathnames but actually mapping drive letters seemed to fix it.

The drives in question are all mapped. Letter Z, in fact.

I wouldn't use the NAS drives. I always use my local drives and when the job is complete, I use a tag editor on the files and then copy to my NAS.

Also, have a read of this thread...

Well, after ripping another few DVDs it seems that the solution is to rip to a local hard drive. It is also the only way to get DVD to Mobile to work properly, since attempting to do that across the network also fails. It's very, very annoying to me to have to do this though, so I'm going to attempt to discover some other solution. If I do, then I'll post here.

Alright, after much searching I think I've discovered the problem and a fix. Since applying the fix, I've had no more issues ripping my DVDs to the NAS directly. I'm posting here in case this issue affects someone else in the future.

The main problem lies with the NAS product I'm using, the ReadyNAS NV+. The issue is with the ReadyDLNA Auto Update feature. When that feature is enabled it causes large files to time out when being copied or written to the ReadyNAS, hence my DVD rips were failing. The simple solution was to turn that feature off. A better solution was to update the firmware of the ReadyNAS which also fixes the problem.

I hope this helps someone else out there. I'm so happy that I can once again rip directly to my NAS without first ripping to my local drive and then copying to the NAS. That's going to save me HOURS!

Also, if possible, could a moderator please mark this thread as SOLVED?

Hey guys I have found another solution to this error. I have found that if you are doing a DVD to DVD copy and are changing the "Volume Label" the new label CAN NOT end with a space. When I type in a name that is too long it can't end in a space such as, "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince". That title is too long and ends at "Harry Potter and the Half Blood ", you can't add the Prince part.

That is the solution I have found works every time I have received that error code.
