    Fail to Burn-Please help

I got my first DVDFAB failure- This during a DVD to DVD Customize. Shown was:

    task_2 failed! Error=112
    Process failed-

After two attempts and a coupler of hours working on it I tried to burn the folder-Once I located the file on the Hard Drive and target burner I clicked Start and it asked if I wanted to "Over-Write the folder, I said "No" (Why would I want to overwrite it?)- That said Process failed so I checked the "Yes" to overwrite it (Nothing to lose). One second later a new Error code appeared with the Process Failed window. This, now said: Task _1 failed! Error=400(]

I used VERBATIM DVD+R DL as the target disk. 2 different ones just in case of a bad disk.

I looked in the DVDFAB Document folder and the Crash and Report folders were empty, so I can not provide that info. Below is what is in the LOG/ burn vso folder:

not sure it is the cause of your error but both your optical drives have new firmware versions. I think XP has a service pack 3 also and would be a good idea to update to that since the vso burn engine is written to support new updates. If still no joy post back and someone else may have more ideas. The mods are working on an updated Error codes list also.

Thanks for the Firmware note W & B, One burner was up to date, the other was behind 3 versions and all set now. Although that did not help with the burn. For readers, the Samsung URL with firware updates, and a program to read your current software is: samsungodd.com (odd is for optical drive device).

      - Downloading SP3 means I could not uninstall IE8 once downloaded. IE8 was "buggie" for me so I reverted to 6 and shortly thereafter stopped using IE and now use Firefox 3.5 as my default browser. What an improvement in itself.

I did get the burn complete. I downloaded Imgburn and was able to complete the project. One caveat, I am not PC sharp and when the Imgburn program wanted me to determine Layer break locations, exact burn speeds, etc I saw another $2 coaster coming my way. Why there are no "Default" setting for us novices I do not know. After getting warnings like, "Sure you want to do That?" and guessing my way around, 40 min's later a disk was ejected and it played flawlessly in different players.

Ideally I would like to have the vso engine working properly. I did burn a DVD 5 disk a few minutes ago with vso and it was fine. I should mention that I have used the vso burner on +R DL disks in the past and there were no problems. -Moderators, My program of FAB is the Paid one.

IMGBurn is all I use, follow Troy512's instructions here http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=33 to set it up for DVDFab and to set your AWS (automatic write speed). Its a great video and makes it so much easier to setup. I think you might would have to still select where to put the layer break and maybe Troy512 or someone else can explain that better than I since I never burn dual layer disc. The VSO burn engine is buggy for some people but I never personally had any problems with it on XP Home ED. sp3 with ie8 installed and Firefox browser set as default but I now run Vista Ultimate 64bit and switched to IMGBurn because it seems to have better control of the burn speed.

          For the Samsung TS-H652L http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/TS-H652L/files.html
shows a firmware update of SC01 yours is 0803

          For the Samsung SH-S182D http://www.firmwarehq.com/Samsung/SH-S182D/files.html
shows a firmware update of SB07 your is SB04 according to the log you posted.

what makes me think it might be firmware related is this "error 2009-09-18 17:23:43 Error Init DVD+R Dual Layer: Failed to set layer change to LBA 2012544 (3.84 Gb.) - Code 06 29 00 [Unit attention, Power On or Bus device reset occured] "
and if it wasn't your burner that was updated then it may be having a problem with the write strategy. Also according to that log your media is still good so you might try to burn them again because I hear ya on the $2 coasters "2009-09-18 17:23:43 Error Init DVD+R Dual Layer: Write cancelled, Your media is still usable."

Hello W & B, I downloaded a tool from the Samsung site to verify firmware applications. One of the burners came with this PC. There are two letter codes that attach to the burners showing their applications with other hardware and mother board. The second update (0803) is for HP PC's and is on the HP site. HP also runs firmware updates and says this is up to date. Samsung said not to load any updates without verifying the code first. The drive with the SB07 update matched right up. Although it might work.. I am going to guess that it would cause capability conflicts. I also don't know how easy it would be to roll back if necessary.

im not familiar with all the VSO error codes.

ImgBurn will always ask for a Layer Break as the best layer break can not always be determined automatically. so if there is an error or layer change during a key scene in the movie, the author of ImgBurn doesnt want to be held responsible. so you must choose a layer break unless you specify a layer break in settings. look into ImgBurn settings, most all the prompts can be turned off.

if your burner is listed at firmware hq, then the supplied firmware is compatible with your drive.

Hi, I checked and the update would not be advisable because of conflicts- The reply from HP/Compaq:

.."I would like to inform you that HP makes the product by assembling different types of part like hard drive, CD/DVD drive etc of different manufacturer. After installing, HP releases the firmware update for DVD driver, hard drive etc.
As an HP technician I would recommend you not to do the firmware update except from HP website".

Thanks for the info about the layer breaks and the links for how to set up Imgburn. Being a novice can be trying, but forums such as these are very helpful.
                Good Day!

Just a note I had a similar burn issue. Task 2 error 29...I was trying to reburn a folder to DVD. The problem was the burn was set up with "Full Disc". When I changed it to "Main Movie" all worked fine. Apparently, if one does not remember how the original copy was made and does not select it during a potential needed re-copy, a task 2 error will occur.

I too often get the "failed to burn" when I am using a DL DVD. If I downsize the quality of the copy or choose main movie only and am able to fit on single layer DVD then it will work fine. Other times I don't have any problem at all. Would this be an issue with bad DVDs? I spent extra on Verbatim because I read that Memorex had this problem.

especially if burning dual layer disc, i would give some serious thought to using ImgBurn instead of VSO.
