ISO file is too large

    ISO file is too large

    I've been using DVDFab 8.1.0.0, and ImageBurn 2.5.5.0 for a long time with no problems. Lately when I create an ISO file intended for a single layer DVD-R (after selecting "DVD-5" in the DVD Copy - Customize page, and under the Volume Label field) everything proceeds as normal, but when it's finished the ISO file is too large for the intended disc. Twice now it's created an ISO file over 6GB.

    I checked all my settings in DVDFab, but I don't see anything that would affect file sizes. I may have changed some settings in ImageBurn a while back, so I selected "Restore Defaults" for all settings and tried it again...but the same thing happened: what should be a smaller file after ripping is actually about 6GB.

    What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

            File size too big

            Do you mean that the original file is too big for a single-layer disc? Or that the file DVDFab creates is too big for a single-layer disc?

            I am assuming that the problem is the latter. But why is this just beginning to happen now? And when I select "DVD5" it's supposed to adjust the file size accordingly, right? (for instance, this latest rip indicated that I had a 92% resolution). The way I understand it, DVDFab is supposed to shrink that file down so that it will fit on the size disc which the user has selected. In my DVDFAB DVD-write settings, writeable media size is set to 4488 MB for DVD-5. Is this set too high? Am I not getting something?

              My advice and I do this myself, is go in and select customize and set the DVD-5 size to 4472. That gives you a bit of a margin so it doesn't burn too close to the outer edge of the disc where errors are more likely to occur. It has served me well over the years on both + and -R media.

                i'll try that

                OK thanks. I'll try that next. However, that still doesn't explain why the ISO file that DVDFab creates is over 6 Gigabytes now, even if my writeable media setting is a tad high.

                  If I had to guess, the default size was DVD-9 and you just ovrlooked it, it is easy to do and it happens?

                    That doesn't add up.

                    Your guess is incorrect. I've run the same disc 5 times now, watching specifically for the possible oversight you mentioned. While that might have been the case the first time (that's exactly what I thought at first too), it cannot explain how the same results occurred the next 4 times. And I obtained the same results on another movie recently too, although at the time I figured that I had selected DVD-9 by accident and blew it off without checking again. So one would have to assume that after months of successful rips and burns, now suddenly, within the course of a couple days, I am an instant jackass who can't read or perform simple tasks. And if it were as you say, then why would DVDFab indicate a 92% resolution, as I noted earlier? If I had selected DVD-9 it would indicate 100% quality instead. The only other possible explanation I can think of is that the DVD-5 menu selection now points to the DVD-9 write routine in the software. My advice to me is to reinstall both DVDFab and ImageBurn.

                      Sounds like a plan. download 9.0.2.3 for reinstall, I've tried it a couple times since we started this exchange and it works fine for me.
