    Unable to detect writable media

Hi, I've just upgraded to DVDFab 9. I'm using an external Samsung RW drive. I was having a lot of trouble wth DVD Fab 8, and I'm hoping DVD 9 will work for me. It copies a movie fine, but when I put a blank disk in, it's unable to detect the writable media and continues to say "no media detected in drive...". I've tried a number of different discs. The one's I've been trying today are TDK 16 x DVD+R. The one I tried yesterday is a Verbatim, also DVD+R 16x.

Any ideas? I did get one successful burn after installing DVDFab 9 yesterday but after that nothing. I thought it might be the RW, but it's copying the movies fine without errors.

I wondered if the DVD's were faulty but when I put them in the writer it asks me what I want to do with the blank dvd. I didn't want to buy a whole spindle of Verbatim ACO disks, which I have to order online here in rural Australia, without knowing the process was going to work.

Further to previous, I have tested the burning function on my Samsung external DVD RW and it works fine, so it must be the DVDFab program.

      Not necessarily.

Try downloading, installing and using ImgBurn if you want to rescue these crap disks...

Do not buy that TDK rubbish again.

Thanks for the advice about rescuing my discs, but that is not the issue, the issue is in my first post in this thread, that DVDFab9 won't recognise media, even Verbatim discs.

I'm not sure where to go from here. Do I buy a new Samsung DVD RW - is that the issue? Mine is only 1 month old. Do I order different discs, which have to be shipped and take a few weeks? Or is it a problem with DVD FAb?

Honestly, download, install and try ImgBurn.

Besides being the "GOLD STANDARD" of burning engines, it integrates into Fab and will enable us to do more diagnostics to try to assist with your problem.

BTW: Your problem is quite a common one when disks and burner are just not up to scratch. I've seen it hundreds of time before.

Where are you in Oz? It only takes me 10 days to get stuff delivered from China online. Stuff from Oz is usually less than 3 days.

Thanks Greg, I did install IMG Burn and use it with DVD Fab after looking up the setting changes and applying them. It appears to do all correctly but the end message after verifying is "Mission Failed". I used a Verbatim Disc, which has the movie on it, but I'm not sure if it's complete or without errors.

Here's the log from IMG Burn and DVD FAB

I'm just not sure what to do? Do I order more Verbatim AZO discs, assuming things will work? Do I try another Samsung DVD RW?

And am I right to get Verbatim DVD+R 16x discs? The info says:
                  "Verbatim DVD+R 4.7GB White InkJet Printable 100 Pk 16x : 95145"

Turn off verifying. It's a waste of time and no real use.

Try playing the disk in your PC & player is the only real test.

I wouldn't panic just yet..... Give a few more a try with ImgBurn.

I'm sorry that I can't help you with the disks as I never burn anything anymore, so I'm not up on the brands.

I just rip them to my hard disk and play them with a media player(s) attached to my TV(s).

I hear what you're saying Greg, but I don't have time to watch every DVD I copy. The one that failed is a TV series and is about 6 hours long? Is there no way to burn, verify and be told that the burn was successful, like used to happen with DVD Fab 8? Is there anyone else I could ask?

                        Onalove,

Regarding you "media not detected" error, I've seen a similar error when using 8.2.2.8 . I was seeing an intermittent process error

                        100 "DVD_Error_OpenFile"

which appears to have been caused by some kind of timeout issue between my DVDFab tool and ImgBurn when I was trying to burn from the DVDFab screen. DVDFab would generate that error before it launched or accessed ImgBurn.

I worked around the issue by burning all of my media directly from a separate ImgBurn window. Since I've been burning with this approach, I've not seen any media/write errors.

I switched to ImgBurn a few months ago and am using it in conjunction with DVDFab. I'm using 8.2.2.8 .

The ImgBurn gurus here helped me set up my ImgBurn and since then, I've been in cruise mode without problems.

One of the best tips that the gang here passed along to me was the "burn-speed" rule of thumb:

Best results are achieved when limiting your burn speed to approx 1/2 of the rated media max speed.

Prior to setting ImgBurn to 1/2 rated media burn speed, I was encountering some intermittent errors when writing to my media.

I've been using the following blank media products for a few years with great results.

For my DVD-5 burns, I use

                        Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8x

For my DVD+R DL burns, I use one of the following:

                        Verbatim DVD+R DL AZO 8-10x

                        Verbatim DVD+R DL AZO 4x

I noticed something earlier on ImgBurn when I had completed a burn. ImgBurn displays misc quotes and other info at the bottom of its dialog box and I noticed that it was disaplaying...

"Use Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden Media" or something similar.

If you do as Scoop says, you should have no need to verify and if the copy completes without errors (without verifying) you should be good to go.

Thanks Gregi and Scoop. I've been using Verbatim 16x and have already adjusted the write speed to 8x, but I'll replace them with lower speed DVD's. However, atm every one says "Mission Failed" afterwards.

Even though a quick scan through the recorded movie or TV show appears ok, this is not conducive to confident copying and confidence in DVDFab! Surely there must be a way to get a positive "Success" at the end!

ATM I have DVD FAb and IMG Burn set up to work together as I've directed DVDFab 9 to use IMG Burn as the writer. Scoop, do you do something different with IMG Burn?

Oh, and I've turned Verify off, but Mission still fails.
