Discs not playing on dvd players or splitting properly

I'm new to DVDFab and am having trouble getting things to work well. First off, I'm trying to split dual layer DVD's into two 4.7G single layer DVD's. I have had several different issues, from simply displaying a menu on DVD players (and nothing else) to not even reading. Some show the DVDFab logo and say insert disc ? (1 or 2). Would someone be willing to help with getting these issues resolved so that I can backup my DVD's? If it helps the discs in question are Celtic Woman and Celtic Woman A New Journey - Live at Slane Castle. I want to get these to work before I start on the rest of the DVD collection.
