DVDFab 9.1.xx won't run

Hoping someone has some ideas. I have a licensed copy of DVD Copy. I had been running version 9.0.7.2 but it began to have problems hanging up halfway through the movie. I tried to update to 9.1.06 when it came out. The program would install, the system would reboot, but the program wouldn't run. All that would happen was the icon would appear in the system tray. No opening screen, no nothing. Had to open task manager to close it. Tried uninstalling it, and running CC Cleaner to clear the registry and tried reinstalling. NO Luck.

I then couldn't get 9.0.7.2 to run. Had to revert to a copy of 8.2.2.9 that I had saved. It would run but can't copy some newer movies.

I've tried to install each of the new versions that have come out but have the exact same result, the program appears to install correctly but when I try to run it, nothing. The program appears in task manager but never opens.

Where I'm at now....after uninstalling all versions, and cleaning the registry, I had to install 8.2.2.9 first, then was able to install 9.0.6.3

9.0.6.3 runs but I'd like to be able to keep updating. I know there have been important changes made but I can't install the new versions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you check your anti virus to see if it is stopping Fab from running?

TRY THIS During install when the screen comes up for destination folder C:\Program Files\DVDFab 9xxx and start menu folder DVDFab 9xxx, I change the blue from DVD Fab 9xxx, and add the last 3 digits of whatever version I'm installing after the 9, which will allow me to have more than one version installed, right now I have 22 versions of 9 installed and running, it will put an icon on your desktop after installing that version but, you will have to rename the DVD Fab 9 new icon to DVD Fab 9xxx or what ever the version that you have just installed.
Just right click the icon and click rename.

I could be imaging this, but I think this may have something to do with some video cards. I am stuck at 9.0.6.3 as well. Anything after that doesn't install or run correctly on my older system, which has a Nvidia GeForce MX 4000 video card with 64Mb RAM and the latest drivers available for it. All versions run fine on my newer system with an ATI \ AMD HD 6450 video card with 1Gb of RAM and the latest drivers. Could it be that the older card doesn't have enough memory anymore? Or perhaps the drivers are not good enough? If one of those is the problem, I'm out of luck as I can't do anything about either one... But something changed after 9.0.6.3 and I can't get 9.0.7.0 or any version after it to work. Has anyone seen any old school PCI (not PCI-E) video cards available for sale lately?

So I tried your suggestions of installing into separate folders. Downloaded 9.1.1.9, Ran install as "administrator," Rebooted the system, and then ran program "as administrator." The program icon shows up on the status bar at the bottom. However, the program fails to open. Couldn't get the program to close by clicking on the icon and clicking close.

Opened up task manager, clicked end Program. Then the program opens but I can't get anything to run. Had to reboot to get it to go away. In addition, it killed my working copy of 9.0.6.3

Uninstalled everything and got 9.0.6.3 to work again. Guess I'll have to be happy with that until I find a movie I can't backup (the kids are terrible on DVDs).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I found a log file that hopefully is below.

I've got an ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 1Gb of RAM. At one point I had 9.0.7 running, then I switched processors and motherboards and all the problems started. I'm at a complete loss

I discovered another reason why versions after 9.0.6.3 won't work for me. Vivian Wang sent me a diagnostic version of 9.1.1.6 and in the log for it I found four error lines that said "This program requires an X86 Processor that supports SSE2 extension..." I didn't know what that was so I looked it up. I found several websites with information about it, all of which essentially say the same thing, that SSE2 does not work on Socket A Processors, which is what my older system has. (AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.09 Ghz)

So that could be why it doesn't even go as far as other people's computers have in the installation process. There may still be issues with Nvidia video cards and or drivers, but for my older system, I think this SSE2 thing is the show stopper. Fortunately, my newer system runs the later versions just fine. So if 8.2.3.0 won't work, I can try 9.0.6.3, and if that doesn't work either, I can switch to my work computer and 9.1.x.x and most likely that will work.

Now this explains a lot, I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro and bought a new video card for my old XP machine. Windows 7 runs fine on this old machine however, when I installed the new version of DVDFab it would not run, so I to, not having the SSE2 instruction it will not run on this machine. so the question is can we fix this without us having to by a new machine?

I have been met this issue. It resoved by update the driver of graphics card.
Download the newer version 9122 and give me a feedback..

Have you guys checked the set up in the BIOS, some (not all) would allow SSE and SSE2 to be disabled and default to the MMX instruction set. Might not hurt to check.

I got this error before the end of the install procedure, rebooted the machine and tried to start DVDFab 9122, it would not start gives the following even after the reboot.

Well, I think in old school terms, but I would think that if the actual problem is based on having a Socket A mainboard and processor, that an entire new machine really isn't necessary when all you really need is a new non-Socket A mainboard and processor. That would be much cheaper than buying a new computer. A Socket A mainboard and processor is just one of many types available. I usually don't go by what I read on , but this page says pretty much the same things as I have read on other websites, it's just all listed on one page. Here's a list of processors that do and do not support SSE2.

CPUs supporting SSE2:

AMD K8-based CPUs (Athlon 64, Sempron 64, Turion 64, etc.)
AMD Phenom CPUs
Intel NetBurst-based CPUs (Pentium 4, Xeon, Celeron, Celeron D, etc.)
Intel Pentium M and Celeron M
Intel Core family (including Intel Core 2, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7)
Intel Atom
Transmeta Efficeon
VIA C7
VIA Nano

Notable IA-32 CPUs not supporting SSE2:

SSE2 is an extension of the IA-32 architecture. Therefore any architecture that does not support IA-32 does not support SSE2. x86-64 CPUs all implement IA-32. All known x86-64 CPUs also implement SSE2. Since IA-32 predates SSE2, early IA-32 CPUs did not implement it. SSE2 and the other SIMD instruction sets were intended primarily to improve CPU support for realtime graphics, notably gaming. SSE2 is also a requirement for installing Windows 8 or Microsoft Office 2013 "to enhance the reliability of third-party apps and drivers running in Windows 8".

The following CPUs implemented IA-32 after SSE2 was developed, but did not implement SSE2:

I still do not want to shell out money for all this, when the SSE instruction set was in the program to start with, or I would have not been able to run 9.0.6.3
Anything after 9.0.6.3 will not run without the SSE instruction. So my question still is can this be fixed without shelling money out, Like I said I just upgraded to Windows 7 Pro and anything beyond 9.0.6.3 will still not run, so put the SSE instruction back in and make it right.

I don't think that SSE2 was required for 9.0.6.3 and earlier versions, otherwise it would not have worked on my Socket A based system. So it's not really a matter of putting SSE2 back in, but removing the requirements for it, which I don't think they will do. They will say the same thing that so many people say whenever the subject of older hardware or software incompatibility comes up. "You need to upgrade." To which I always say that not everyone can afford to buy a new computer or new computer parts every time some requirement changes. Computers and computer parts can be very expensive.

However, that being said, as the owners of older hardware or software we have to face the reality of situation as it is. If we want to do something on an older system that was designed for newer systems, we will eventually have to upgrade to something "a little more modern". Because as PC's get more advanced, the more likely it will be that things that we want to do will not work anymore. I think this is the problem here. Fengtao and company are using the latest hardware and software and we're not.

Myself, I have no plans to buy another mainboard (and everything else required to make doing that work) for my older system just to make Fab work on it either (if nothing worked on it, that would be another story), so I will stick with 9.0.6.3, and will just have to be careful with those disks that I can't copy.

Passkey might be a cost effective alternative to a new system. It's a driver that will rip a clean folder or iso to the HDD and then any version of 8 or 9 will deal with that as the source. As far as I can tell it doesn't require a complex graphical interface. You can trial it and see.
