Odd issue - end of my tether!

Hi all, hope you are well.

I have a really strange problem with DVDFAB and I'm hoping that someone can help. (PLEASE!)

DVDFAB worked fine and still works fine on my old computer. I've installed Win 7 64-bit Ultimate on a new PC and installed DVDFAB v9.1.6.6.

When I put a DVD in the drive, Windows Explorer finds it no problem. I can play it on VLC player no problem. When I load DVDFAB it never detects the disc, the hard disk light on the tower then stays lit all the time and the drive becomes unresponsive in Windows Explorer, you cannot open the disc to display the contents, the green progress bar starts to fill very slowly in the address bar at the top of the window. As long as there is a disc in the drive and DVDFAB is running, this happens. DVDFAB's menus are still working at this point. When the computer is in this state, it hangs if you try and do anything with the DVD drive icon, open it, right-click it, etc. I also takes ages to shut down, if at all, which it then needs a reset.

    So far I have:
    Uninstalled DVDFAB and re-installed it,
Uninstalled it with a clean uninstall (Progs and Features then manual registry edit), - any different methods which may help?
    Installed an earlier version,
    Disabled PathPlayer,
Swapped around the cable to a different SATA port,
Swapped the DVD writer for a brand new one,
Set the settings in DVDFAB for the I/O read mode to all options.
    Tried numerous DVDs.

None of the above have worked and I'm left with a monster PC and no DVDFAB software to play with!

Below is a couple of log file entries which seem to stop after it has opened the drive:

HI:Update to Fab version 9167 use cc cleaner a free program to clean the registry and retry.
Make sure your drivers to motherboard and video card and windows are up to date.
If you have Anydvd or other decrypter disable it when using Fab.
Make sure Pathplayer is on in Fab settings and look and see if your drive is listed in Fab settings with a check box in it.
If none of the above work try version 8 of Fab from the front page as a workaround it may work.

Hi Ella, thanks for the post. I uninstalled and used the latest CCleaner, rebooted, checked it again and installed 9167 BETA and had the same issue. Did the same and installed the version 8 from the website and have the same issue Any other things I can try?

Try uninstalling your burner drive then reinstalling then rebooting.
I hoped you checked for new drivers do a windows update check for updates to see if their are any new ones 12 just came down a few mins ago.Did you use the registry cleaner in cc cleaner not just the clean old files. While cleaning old files also put a check in the box clean old prefetch files their listed in the left column and the default setting is not checked for this prefetch folder then download Fab from the front page sorry forgot to tell you this before.

          Hi Ella,

The drivers are up to date, the DVD burner is brand new today. The firmware is also up to date. I used the Reg cleaner in CCleaner, making sure that prefetch files was ticked in the left column. Downloaded both the latest BETA and old version from the website. Still have the same issue

Here's more free tools to check the drive.
Describes Microsoft easy fix solutions and how to use them. "Microsoft easy fix" was formerly known as "Microsoft Fix it."

The Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter helps you automatically repair issues when you're blocked from installing or removing programs.

Install ImgBurn (free from the net.) and from the menu select Tools->Filter Driver Load Order and click on the Copy to Clipboard button and paste it into a post. It can help identify many drive access problems.
