Burned DVD will not play in DVD player

Hello, i am experiencing the same problem that a number of Windows 7 users have been reporting in the forums but i have not read a resolve yet.

Just as the user Barberay reported, i have a HP Laptop running Windows 7, 4 GB, 64 bit, AMD Turion II 2.4 GHZ, DVD Fab 6 using Imgburn. No external hard drive, no recent changes. This is happening with all DVD's i burn. I have another HP laptop running XP and DVD Fab 5 that i have been burning DVDs with for years with no problems.

Any thoughts?

Will the DVD play in the drive you burned it in? Will it play on the XP machine? If you are using +R discs did you set Fab to booktype to DVD-ROM?

Odds are you are using Memorex.. Throw up a coin heads it wont work, tails........ it won't work.... buy Verbatim -R.

As AX said. Don't use laptop or if you do use external drive because the internal drives on a laptop just can't handle this type of work very well.

Using Verbatim DVD +R. It will play in both the Windows 7 and XP laptops.

Also, tried to add burn from my external passport drive. Still doesn't work. The same Verbatims burn and play fine when burned from my XP laptop. Did not try to set booktype to DVD-ROM. How do i do that?

Go to common settings by clicking the green check mark, then down to "WRITE" you'll see the box near the bottom of the screen. Tick the box, this may be the key to the problem. DVD-ROM is the most compatible.

Are you sure your drive will change the booktype? Download VSO inspector and check it, it's a free download and a handy tool. See the picture:

I have 4 set top players in the house. If I use Verbatim -R I can play them in all of them. If I use Verbatim +R I can play them in 3 of them. The one player it won't work in is a very cheap player and I don't think it likes +R's.

If you have any -R's (Single layer).... Try them. If you use Double layer then you the best is the Verbatim +R DL that is best (In my opinion)

Ok... sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys. Downloaded VSO Inspector. Looks like DVD-ROM. Still no play.

Also, the same DVD player is able to play the DVD +R when burned with DVDFAB 5 on Windows Vista.

Try downloading and using ImgBurn and use it as the burning engine instead of the default VSO.

There is a full tutorial (inc Video) on this forum on how to do this.
