Sorry to hear that Rhythm. It could be a molding defect from the manufacturing process and not a scratch at all. Players are typically much more forgiving and just because it plays ok in a stand alone player does not mean it will backup, two very different processes.

It is acting like a bad pressing, that is a ZCLV drive which means it devides the disc into zones or "regions" and it can't read a portion of the particular region. Which is a likely read error. Try a different movie and post results please.

90312, I backed up at least ten dvd's movies with no issues. I even tried cleaning the Fantastic Four DVD with a 3M clear coat rubbing compound used for vehicles, and still will not back up. DVD Fab process about 25% before I start to hear the DVD rom driver making noises. The drive will try to do a high speed spin randomly then idle off and on. The 3m rubbing compound removed a great portion of the surface scratches. However, apparently not all were removed.

Ok, still no success with trouble shooting this gremlin. The Malware software found one fix that was unrelated to causing my backup issue. I have tried all suggestion, except for doing the DVD rom firmware update. I am having a difficult time locating firware update for ATAPI DVD A DH16A6S ATA.

Just dawned on me, after reviewing my log files my disc fantastic four did the same thing to me, but mine said it was Spanish version. After doing a through cleaning with windex and a soft cloth it copied. Strange??????
