Dvdfab 6.2.2.0 crashes with external dvdrom

I'm using an samsung dvdrom in an external encasement connected via Usb. I'm running windows xp sp3 and dvdfab 6.2.2.0 beta (same issue with 6.2.1.8 and a string of other version 6's)
The program runs fine with my internal drive but slow as molasses in december so I use the external instead. The problem is that when I boot dvdfab it won't register the external drive unless I unplug the usb from the computer wait a second then plug it back in. Then it asks me what region the movie is from, acts like it is loading the info then crashes. No prompt to submit an error report either. I had no Problems with 6.0.6.0 (i think this version) but when I updated for new encryption updates it now crashes on me all the time. Thoughts?

Have you checked the DMA stauts of your internal burner?
Are you certain you have USB 2.0?
Are you using a PCI card?

Any chance you can connect to an eSATA port?

What are your computer specs, or make and model?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I have not checked the DMA status of the internal drive no I'll have to look into that.
I am positive I am using usb 2.0 both ports and cable.
I am not using a pci card.
eSATA is not an option for me at this moment.

I'm curious what in the coding of 6.2.2.0 and 6.2.1.8 would have made it mix badly with the drive. I never posted anything about 6.2.1.8 because i actually didn't keep up to date and see it was available until 6.2.2.0 beta was out. I have tried both and both do the same thing. 6.1.2.5 however works fine with the drive, however it can't do anything with my copy of Surrogates that I'm trying to backup.

Here are my more specific specs:
Toshiba Satellite running windows xp pro edition sp3 to a samsung dvdrom SH-D12C in an 5.25" encasement.

Surrogates was what made me try the beta but it hasn't worked on several other discs I tried to see if it was specific to that movie.

        How is this powered?

The case has its own power supply ran to outlet that connects inside the case to power the drive.

So Someday did you try resetting DMA on your internal drive? Open DVD Fab green check on top general settings make sure check for DMA automatically is checked and you can also reset DMA by clicking the reset DMA just above the cancel button.

How is the Samsung SH-D12C configured/jumpered (i.e., Master, Slave, or Cable Select)?

I have absolutely no idea. I opened the case, hooked it up IDE to USB 2.0, run the usb 2.0 to the laptops usb input. I didn't have to actually configure anything. I'm not so interested in fixing the internal drive as I am in figuring out why my external is causing problems all of the sudden? I thought new versions were typically just additional code for encryption?

I have two external DVD drives, one full sized that works perfect and one slim one. No problems with either. I think I would check common settings and under “read” make sure “SPTI” is set rather than “auto”. If that didn't help set to “ASPI” and give it a try. I'd change the USB cable, connections go bad, get loose and what not. The code is good or you'd see ten thousand such posts.
How to post the internal log

Well, you should be interested in how the EIDE drive is configured as it will not work reliably and predictably if not jumpered as required by the enclosure--typically, EIDE drive must be jumpered as Master. Until you confirm that your drive is properly configured, you're just playing a guessing game and might just be chasing phantom software issues. Good luck.

I tried your recommendations and here are the results:
Auto, SPTI - Asks for disc region, begins to load, dvdfab crashes.
ASPI - won't recognize usb drive.

tried 5 different cables all same response. They work fine with other items.

It might not be the code specifically, it could be a conflict with my laptop or my drive however if that is the case I am trying to get to that resolution.

I'm looking into the DMA settings for the laptops internal drive now.

                        Confirmed as jumpered as Master.

What's the age of your laptop? The next step is to check that you're using the latest USB driver and BIOS from your laptop manufacturer. Update if necessary.

It wasn't, I then found the region setting option inside the general options and set it accordingly. It no longer prompts asking for region it just tries to load and crashes.

The laptop is several years old, however all drivers and bios are up-to-date.
