What DL media are you using?
The only only consistently recommended DL media is Verbatim +R DL.
The MIDs are MKM 001 (2.4-4X) and MKM 003 (up to 8X).
Try for the stuff made in Singapore (MIS) as opposed to made in India (MII)

You can try reloading your drivers.

If this doesn't work, try unticking
Disable Media Change Notification in Img settings.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

One of the reasons Imgburn is having a problem is the same as FAB.

Something has your drive locked and both FAB and Imgburn cannot access it.

I agree with Gruñón more and more I am seeing these filters which I believe are causing drive lock or crashes in Fab.
Even if it's a little thing, do something for those who have need of help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.

I got the IO error and burn failure using Memorex +R DL (they show as Ritek -S04-66) w/ ImgBurn set at 8X.

I also used a TDK -R SL at 8X and it worked fine w/ ImgBurn, but only after I selected "Continue" when confronted with this message:

Unable to lock volume for exclusive access
          Reason: the handle is invalid
Do you want to try again

I have unchecked Disable Media Change Notification and will try another DL

steinkampg your media is junk to most experienced users, Sorry If you want quality media use Taiyo Yuden which can be bought on line and Verbatim which can also be bought on line and most stores that sell electronics.

Agreed and DVD Studio Pro:4.0.3 is a disk writing program listed prior to the burn attempt.

Yup, same advice we gave on the first page starting with post #6 by Gruñón.

Please revisit post #9 in which I posted some links to help you out.
Start with the MS site...deleting upper and lower filters
