Media size max settings are either too high or low.

Default write settings of DVD-5 or DVD-9 sizes are either too low or too high. Only using customize creates correct size.
DVD-5 options (max size without overburn should be 4483)
    1. 4300
    2. 4920

DVD-9 options (max size for DVD+R DL without overburn should be 8152)
    1. 8000
    2. 8100
    3. 8103 (DVD-R DL)
    4. 8968 (DVD+R DL)

Quite true, but for the neophyte, these settings will work well enough until they gain more experience and set their own levels to whatever they want or gives best results to their critical eyes...

And, since most people start off with some of the crappier brands of blanks (again, inexperience), these settings will keep them away from the outer edges where many write errors and failures occur.

I can well understand the conservative, lower limits, particularly as it relates to marginal/crappy media.
I can't for the life of me understand why there's a default max size that's too large and bound to cause problems.

I can see it now...some noob saying,
"I'm going for all I can get", and then complaining that it doesn't work.

Anyone overburning has the wherewithal to customize their settings
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
