Recent problems burning dual layer DVDs

    Hello.

I've been using DVDFab for about 12 months but I'm new to the forums.

I use DVDFab (currently version 6.0.2.2) to rip ISO files to my hard drive but recently I've been having issues burning the larger ISO files to dual layer disks (DVD 5 works fine).

In the past I've used both Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4x as well as TDK DVD+R DL 8x without any problems except for the occasional failed burn.

Lately I can't seem to burn anything to a dual layer disk and have no idea what the problem is. My computer is less than 12 months old and I don't seem to have any issues ripping DVDs or CDs and I can burn CDs or single layer DVDs without any problems so I don't think it's a hardware issue.

Can someone please help? I'm not particularly tech savvy so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I read through the "Help Us Help You" section so I hope the following info helps someone to help me.

    Cheers.

Hi DaOozi9mm first off open Fab click green check on top / general / make sure check for DMA is checked and click the reset DMA button bottom right because your drives are in PIO mode.
Also your drives need a firmware update you will find that here http://www.firmwarehq.com/LG/GSA-T50N/files.html.
I would also install ImgBurn and how to set it up you will find it here http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=33.
    Post back with results

      Thank-you CBR929.

      You are the man.

I hit the DMA reset, restarted my computer and nailed a DL burn right away.

Thanks for the advice. I spent hours (and many discs) trying to sort this out.

On that note I'd like to maybe make a suggestion to any moderators or programmers reading this thread (call it constructive criticism).

Although CBR929 was able to help me out it's disappointing that such a simple solution wasn't suggested to me at the time of the error.

As I said before, I'm not too technically savvy so a message like...

      08:04:31: Task_2 failed! Error=112
      08:04:32: Process Failed!

      ...tells me nothing.

Is it too much to ask for some troubleshooting dialogue as well?

      I mean...

      08:04:31: Task_2 failed! Error=112
      08:04:32: Process Failed!
      Try resetting DMA etc

...would have been much more helpful to someone like me.

As I said, it's just a suggestion but I'm sure simple remedies would result in much happier end-users.

Thanks again CBR929. I owe you a beer.

      Cheers mate.

A worthy thought, and in your case, an easy answer...BUT... the error you received, error=112, means that the drive didn't initialize...ie., it didn't respond to a system inquiry about its status...

But it also could have meant that your drive is dead, the cables are loose, there's a hardware failure somewhere... and the list is longer... thus making it hard to provide a solution right after the error message... and the coding necessary to attempt to accomplish this would make the program slow and difficult to use...

What might be called a programmer's nightmare... besides...we need something to justify our existence...

I think you should try and learn how to read the logs that DVDFab supplies as it tells you that you was in PIO mode and not DMA mode. Also to find out what the difference is between PIO and DMA use google then you will be more educated with it. Check out the bold in the upper quote

Glad I could help and happy burning.
I also read your other post and yes it would be nice to have some kind of error message with information of what to do, or a magical button to press but, the error you received and errors other members receive have more than one cause as to why they are getting their errors, so that is why we request the error logs to try and pin point the problem and resolve these issues so that the users can get on with their lives and not sit in front of the computer trying to figure it out. Your problem was really not to hard, you just have to learn how to read the logs.

DC hit the nail right on the head and if I ever have any problems with my computer I would always trust his advice.
