I have a question what steps are neeed when going from 6.2.1.8 to latest beta. I have a registered copy for dvd to dvd. I was just not sure if we need to retrieve a version 7 key before I can register new version 7.

You don't need to do anything.
It will install in a separate folder as with previous major releases and run independently

You can keep 6.2.1.8 on your computer and just install the beta if you want as they will install in different folders. To answer your question no you will not need a 7 key. after install click the question mark top of new install and then click about it should update your information.
