need help with dual layer discs

can anyone tell me how to get dual layer discs to work with my software. i have an hp pavillion dv6000 notebook with a dvd recorder that does have the dual layer logo on it but when i use my dvdfab software and try to copy using dvd9 for the larger movies it asks for a dual layer disc but when i put one in it won't accept it
