    Installation Help

DVDFab install fine. When i click the icon i get the Welcome to DVDFab screen. At the bottom I click Start DVDFab and nothing happens. Please help.

Use DVDFab to set the DMA and if that does not work then go into Device manager and make sure your DVD Drive is in DMA mode and not PIO mode. Also if you are using XP as an OS make sure you are using SP3

Primary IDE was set to DMA the secondary IDE was set to PIO. I changed to DMA and the software opened up. Thanks for your help.
I took the dvd drive out of a older computer that I use to use. It would copy most dvds at 5 to 7 mb/s a second. In the new computer it is stuck around 2 mb/s.

Well with it being in DMA now it should be faster for you. Test it out and see

Copied several movies and it is running between 1.75 and 2.1 mb/s. Let me know if there is anything I can do to speed this up. I have a new Dell XPS laptop running windows 7 and it is also extremly slow.

Have you checked any of your logs to make sure DMA is enabled and not PIO?
You can post them here The default location is:
            C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log.

Please just copy and paste the burn log(s) and post right here.

Have you checked the cables? Is the firmware up to date? What is the make and model#

The wire that hooks the DVD drive up to the motherboard is it 40 wire or 80 wire. Check and make sure it 80 wire as that might cause the issue as well. Another thing you might want to make sure the connections are tight and on correctly as that could affect the speed as well

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this DVD-ROM drive (not a dvd burner) was available for sale in 2002 (maybe earlier)....
With respect to this technology, it is beyond obsolete
The most recent firmware I could find was a 2003 update to
                    ProA_f124.exe., released in 2002...ancient stuff

I think you're confusing drivers and firmware.
                    There is no driver update for this burner in windoz XP or later;
the native XP drivers are utilized.
XP is simply telling you that you're already utd.

Firmware is a specific higher level software that can be updated or "flashed" to a specific piece of hardware...your burner in this case. This will often allow the user to avoid replacing the hardware for a substantial length of time and yet keep current with newer, faster media, etc.

Please click on this post below spend some time on the suggested links.
It should help clear things up a bit for you.

Could you please post the info on your drive?
You can use a free utility such as
                    VSO Inspector
                    or nero cd-dvd speed, etc.

Frankly, I'd buy a new burner. There are tons of quality, new burners out there. You can pick one up for about $30.

Don't hesitate to give us a holler if you get stuck.
