    Task_1 failed! Error=400() (w/DVDFab 7.0.4.0)

I've been getting process fail messages ripping to .iso with the most recent 2 versions of DVDFab. Almost always I rip the main movie to an iso file. At first I thought that it was a case of new protection schemes. But I have had this prob with several DVDs (including a 1994 release to The Karate Kid). But I have successfully ripped these same DVDs with DVDFab version 6.2.2.0 which I have left installed on my PC. So, I don't think its a prob with dirty DVD. copy protection, or my DVD drive. I have tried all the different PathPlayer options.

When I get the error msg w/ver 7 I can see (if I look before closing the error message) that the DVD has been ripped to a \TEMP\VIDEO_TS folder. And I can even play the movie from that folder (dbl clk the .ifo file). But as soon as I close out the error msg, the temp folder is deleted.

    Here are the log files.

NOTE: The dvdfab_internal.log file shows my (unsuccessful) rip using ver 7 followed by my (successful) rip using ver 6. Note that in that log file it shows a parameter of 0 for filemover using ver 7 and that same parameter is 1 for the rip in ver 6. I'm not sure what this parameter is or how to set it so I don't know if it is significant.

Any ideas re what I could have gotten screwed up so I can't use the latest versions of DVDFab 7?

    Here's couple of ideas:
aa. If you was able to locate output folder with valid content in it, look from this point further. BTW, If you copy output folder and paste somewhere else before closing error message, you will have that copy even after message is closed and temp deleted.
bb. So, if you look forward to the next step from copy to iso making, you are using built-in VSO engine. This engine is famous with creating problems like this. There is a solution - using alternative ImgBurn for this part of the process. Please go here http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=12
and do what they say, and you should be OK.

You can also open Fab Click green check top right>general>and make sure delete temporary files when done is not checked, as they will remain in your temp folder when you click the finish button, But make sure to delete them afterwords as they will take up a lot of space on your hard drive.

Because for sure he will forget to do it every time, I would not suggest to do it. And in this particular instance he can save temp as I proposed above

Why not just set up for example, a C:\DVDRips Folder as the output folder, leave the temp files be deleted automatically?

This will then create a volume name directory under that and then use ImgBurn from those folders and he can delete them when he is comfortable that the burn has worked correctly.

Thanks GregiBoy that was my thought as well.

I have also seen error 400 being caused by invalid characters in the volume name but I am now suspecting Fab is insisting also that it conform to the 11 characters total length.

A lot of DVD's do not conform to this.

Also what is the name of the movie you got this error 400?
The illegal characters may also be found in Fabs internal logs under volume label.

That volume label would not cause an error....

Just a thought though. Is there already a volume label of that name alread present on the HDD?

Agreed that will not cause the error, that is why I asked the OP what the name of the movie was.
Checking through my logs from the end of December to date, and 83 burns, my volume label names every movie I burned and not 1 DVD_VIDEO
Just trying to sort this out.

Back in the Dark Ages, the authors used to be very slack and not use the movie title as the volume name, just DVD_VIDEO.

I think I actually mentioned that in my "Best Practice: DVD to Mobile" thread.

Yes you did just read it again, as I have read it before and am thinking of using DVD to Mobile because of the 300+ movies I have.

If you need any advice on that, just start up a thread and let me know.

                            Gentlemen,
hate to interrupt, but I recall similar issue I have experienced some time ago. I had one DVD with same title name (I realized later that they sort of tatooed this title or something), and when I tried to rename it there, it lead me to same error. Eventually I gave up and renamed it after processing. Maybe this is same case.
