My dvdfab7 stays in double layer mode. Everytime I copy a movie I have to download a new version of software. I have to repeat this process evertime I copy a movie.

Are you using the free or paid version of Fab?
If it is the paid give this a read through to see if your registration key has stuck
And if using the trial version,you will no longer be able to compress your movie after the trial is up
