Problem Burning

    Problem Burning

    I borrowed my daughters laptop to burn some of my dvds that I have copied onto an external hard drive because my laptop dvd drive is not a burner drive just rom. She has the trial version of dvd fab on her pc. I have borrowed her pc a few times before and had no problem burning movies for her. All the ones I have done for her have been basically the 'main movie' so I was using the 4.7GB discs with no prob. I bought and tried Memorex 8.5GB Dual Layer 8x DVD+R to burn a full disc movie for her that I have copied onto my external hard drive. I copied the disc as DVD9 because it's 5.97GB @100%. For some reason it will not work with the 8.5GB disc. I am attaching the log and a pic for that. Also since I could not get that to work I tried to burn another 'main movie' only for her that I know will work with a 4.7GB disc and now can't do that either because it says I need to insert a dual layer disc. Also posting log and pic for that. Help Please! Thanks in advance.

    You have only attached 1 log not 3.
    Two are screen shots of FAb....We need to see the logs.

    In the log attached you are burning at Max. speed which is never a good thing..Slow down the burn speed.

    Writing speed requested x6.0, effective x6.0 . Available write speed: 6x ,4x ,2.4x

      A quick google of your media shows that there are many complaints of bad burns when using it.....

        Has the trial on your daughters computer run out?
        If so I think you will no longer be able to compress and burn to a DVD
        Also as suggested slow your burn speed

          Not yet. She has a week left of the trial. She'll prob upgrade when she can afford too since it's such a great program. Thank you.

          Media=Brand of disc I'm using? Correct? The 4.7GB discs I have bought so far are Memorex and have worked great for me so that's why I went with the same brand for the others. Guess I'm gonna just have to try a diff one maybe. Oh and I didn't see the other logs when I looked in the file...I uninstalled and reinstalled fab on her pc and tried the same two projects again and here are my logs:

            Not sure if the burn log in post #1 goes with the screenshots???
            The screenshot indicates that your files are too large to fit on SL media which is why you were prompted to insert DL media.
            I think this is why CBR929 asked about the trial and is guessing that your daughter lost the ability to compress.

            If the trial is still functional, please be certain to select dvd5 as the target size and give it another shot with dvd5 media

            The burn log however, shows that you have some major problems with the DL media inserted.

            No, not really.
            Brands generally don't tell us much....Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden, notable exceptions.

            When referring to media, we speak in terms of MID (media ID).
            For eg., Memorex is and has been made by CMC, Ritek, Moser Baer, Prodisc, Ricoh, Mitsubishi and Infodisc.
            As a result, quality is wholly inconsistent and while you may get lucky, you will most assuredly get unlucky.

            This is exactly what Gruñón pointed out when commenting on
            Info Media ID: RITEK-S04-42
            Marginal quality media at best.

            You're already at a disadvantage by burning with a slimline burner (laptop) and the burn log tells us that your daughter's burner and media are not getting along at all.

            If nothing else, please do the two following:
            Please pick up some Verbatim +R DL media. This is the only consistently recommended DL media for video archiving.
            Ideally, purchase MIS (made in Singapore), rather than MII (made in India)
            You will have to look on the spindle wrapper for the manufacturer's locale.
            My local Sam's Club sells a 50 pk of these (MKM 001) for about $42...not a bad deal.

            Please pick up the 2.4-4X media...MID = MKM 001
            and not the 8X ...MID = MKM 003
            The slimline burner will perform poorly (or worse) with the faster media.

            Burn the MKM 001 at 2.4X.

            A third item you should consider is picking up an external burner.
