Stuck between rock and hard place

I'm running Windows 7 with two cd/dvd drives. I recently purchased and downloaded FABDVD 7062... I've read most of the posts and suggestions which have not resolved my issue. DVDFAB worked fine with the trial/demo version... but after pruchasing and installing the latest version and following all the install, clean install, rebooting, settins, etc. I still have the same problem.

If I choose VSO has the image burn engine, then when I start DVDFAB, I get the message that the burn engine failed to initialize; and the software does not automatically burn the disc as before. If I change the burn engine to imaae burn, the target media says "searching media, please wait" and it doesnt work.

So, I'm on a bridge and can't get off either end. I've spent a couple of days reading and tryhing everthing to no avail. Any fixable help would be appreciated... Thanks, Ed

Try ripping to the HDD either as an ISO image or to a folder, then exit Fab and try burning with ImgBurn.

I have been able to do that with imgburn... I was just looking for something more seamless and automatic... so I can leave the computer and do other things... besides, when you pay for something, you like it to do what it says it will do... but i appreciate your suggestions and thanks.,, ed

From where I sit DVDFab does exactly what I paid for and then some. Our local movie rental store is selling out and I picked up several bargains. I used DVDFab+ImgBurn almost continuously yesterday and it was both seamless and flawless. I used the Windows 7 64 bit computer and then switched to the XP 32 bit during cool off periods and both work fine. So if you can rip with DVDFab and Burn with ImgBurn the problem is likely in the interface between the two. Follow Troy’s instructions to the letter, no variation:
Just do steps 9 through 15 for now and we’ll worry about AWS later. If you installed ImgBurn somewhere other than the default location you must redirect DVDFab to it. http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=33

...yup, no argument there.

I've been running Fab on a Win7 Pro, 64-bit rig and on XP Pro without issues, definitely do what 90312 suggests.

Any details on the errors?
Anything in the windows dump files that's useful?
Seems like something is denying both VSO and Img exclusive access to your ODD's so I'd look to some sort of I/O conflict

Any obvious suspects like Nero InCD, Sonic, Roxio???...other burning software installed?
For starters, please open Img > Tools > Filter Drive Load Order
and post the results so we can take a look.

You can also take a look at your I/O settings in Fab.
Select Auto or SPTI...try both.
I don't believe ASPI will work with Win 7...I couldn't get it to work

I have followed Troy's steps to the letter several times before and my current settihgs were his. However, I am persistent if nothing else, so I uninstalled both DVDFAB adn Imgburn... reinstalled Imgburn and only changed the settins from Troy that you suggested. Then I reinstalled DVDFAB without VSO and changed the write setting burner to Imgburn and speed as recommended. I inserted the target and source discs both before and after loading DVDFAB. However, I continue to receive for the source drive 'searching media, please wait' and cannot continue. I switched target and source discs and I've manually changed the source/target locations for DVDFAB... but same message occurs... I dont have any doubt there is a solution to this and willing to continue trying with help. Thanks again, ed

What happens if you start ImgBurn on its own and insert a blanc disc, can it be initiated?

I asked the OP to do that very thing and he said it worked that way. I was trying to exclude something else not turning the optical drive loose. It seems only to be a problem if Fab is running?

Yes, after starting imgburn, inserting disc, I was able to go to 'write files/folder to disc', navigatae to source folder, and start burn process... imgburn log is below...

I may not understand, but I initiated dvdfab and it's stuck in seraching media... i opened imgburn and did the same thin as before... worked ok and only provided partial log file below...

I did a clean uninstall of the DVDFAB software, folders, files, and registry keys as recommended by... http://club.myce.com/f116/guides-cle...dvdfab-303398/

I rebooted and downloaded a clean copy of DVDFAB7 current version; installed, and rebooted... using the vso option, same error message that burner did not initialize; with the imgburn option, same loopin message scanning media, please wait looking for source drive... in vso option, will save to folder as before and then manually can use imgburn....can manually set source/target drives under vso, but not imgburn option... ed

Set the source and target drives in Fab and if ImgBurn is set properly to work with it, nothing more is necessary. Try slowing the write speed down to 8X, I read your drive is not capable of 16X ZCLV, I don’t know if that’s the issue but MAX speed is never a good idea.

Lowering the speed did not change the function; the problem with setting the target and source drives is that when I choose imgburn as the burner, I can set the target drive manually, but as long as 'scanning media, please wait' it does not take my manual set for the drive... it allows me to choose the drive adn close, but the message remains the samae... scanning media...when vso is selected it automatically and correctly sets both drives, but the burner doesn't initialize... i need to meld the two somehow... where is spock when u need him!!!
