DVD-A Read Error

    DVD-A Read Error

    I'm trying to make a backup of my Bonnie Raitt Nick Of Time DVD-A. On loading, it comes up with a read error. If I ignore all, I can start the clone process, but it bogs down at about 57% with read errors.

    I've tried other rippers on both Windows and Mac. (Mac The Ripper detects bad sectors which it tries to correct, but the resulting iso's VIDEO_TS has navigation hiccups -- this is the closest I've come to getting a working copy of the disc.)

    The disc plays properly in my DVD-A and DVD players. Could it be copy protection that hasn't been seen before? The disc was issued in 2004.

    A couple of quick questions for you,

    -Are you using the free version or paid?
    -What setting is pathplayer in? If it is on try off and vise versa.

    Also, please read the help us help you sticky and try and attach the required information as this will help the process.

      first of all, DVDFab not designed to work with DVD Audio.
      second of all, it appears that you have bad disc, and seems other software you were using explicitly saying that...
      Reason your disc plays in DVD players is that stand along players have very loose skipping rules and great tolerance to bad sectors, while copying (especially clone - 1:1, bit-to-bit copying) - does not.

        Well, it's news to me that DVDFab doesn't work with DVD-A! I have about two dozen DVD-A iso files created with DVDFab that can be burned into perfectly usuable copies.

        The Mac program also indicated that the bad sectors could be purposely employed to foil copy attempts.

        As for providing info, I'm using the paid version, and here are the logs:

          Did I said DVDFab doesn't work with DVD-A? What I said was: "first of all, DVDFab not designed to work with DVD Audio." And it's not!!!
          Would it make clone? Yes it would, because clone function has little to do with content. It's just a blind bit-to-bit copy from one disc to another.

          The Mac program also indicated that the bad sectors could be purposely employed to foil copy attempts.
          I can't comment on something said and/or promised by third party program. Ask Steve Jobs...

            I purchased a license back in early April and unlocked version 7.0.3.0, if I recall correctly. This was the first time I grabbed an version update. If it shows that 7.0.7.0 is running as a trial version, does that mean I have to apply my license key to each and every update?

              Since the release of V7 there have been times an update has not kept the registration key or the users personal settings.

              Re register with the key sent you and check your default settings.

                  I remember that thread. I just don't understand why are sending it to me? To confirm my posts?? Asking because it sounds opposite. And if you want to tell me that I'm incorrect, before you do that, please read this:

                  In a nutshell, DVD-Audio is a giant Music CD with extremely dense content, often lossless. Lossless formats (or high bitrate DTS, DTS HD) requires a lot of space that regular CD can't accommodate.

                  What posters in that thread are talking is ripping Audio only from Concert DVD's (that they are calling DVD-A) and use it in their DVD players.
                  I know you've heard about apples and oranges before, and you've got the picture.
