    Newbie with burning errors

    Hello,

I'm operating the trial version of DVDFab7 Version 7.0.7.0., and I am unable to burn copies of a copyright-protected television series that I own on DVD.

I attempted twice to burn a clone of the first disc, and at about 70% into the burn on a dual-layered DVD-R, I received this error message:

    "Task_2 failed! Error=116"

I switched operations and tried to burn a Full Disk, and I received this error message at some point into the burn:

    "Task_2 failed! Error=122"

I am working on a Sony Vaio VGN-CR420E, with Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU Processor operating at 2.10 GHz. I have 3.00 GB of RAM Memory, and it is a 32-bit operating system. I am using the factory-installed Optiarc DVD RW AD-7560A ATA Device for burning.

The only DVD-related software I have installed in addiction to DVDFab are the factory programs, plus Roxio and Intervideo WinDVD.

Any advice/suggestions would be helpful, as I have already ruined 3 dual-layer DVD's, and these suckers are not cheap. Thanks in advance...separating my logs into another post.

    Carrie

      Hi Carrie2525 and welcome
Try slowing down your burn speed to 4x
You may also want to consider installing ImgBurn it is free and you will find it here along with a tutorial on how to set it up

        ImgBurn no worky

Thanks for the reply. I installed ImgBurn, as suggested, and I took the write speed down to 4x. Here's a screenshot of the error message I got from ImgBurn at 11%.

One more DVD+R ruined. Any ideas?

Post a Imgburn burn log located in documents-dvdfab-logs

Check and make sure the firmware is up to date on the burner as well

Try different media as you are using brand with a MBI Media ID and they not the greatest

take a look at this link below for Burn problems and how to try and fix them

You're right about the disks. They are Memorex, and I learned too late that they were garbage. Do you really think that they are the root of the problem? I'm in a small town, right now, and they were the only DL disks I could locate. If I ordered out for different disks, would this guarantee a good burn? I don't want to waste more money if it's something else.

We see a lot of members using these disc's as the are cheap to buy, not knowing they are junk
The only disc's you should ever buy are Taiyo Yuden which can only be bought on line and Verbatim which can be bought at most big retailers (like Best Buy, Office Max and also Sams Club cairries them) and also on line.
I did some searching for your drives firmware to see if it was up to date will post back if I find anything else

The only DL media from them are -R DL media and it's not good for video.

Your drive has a firmware up date you will find it here http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...=4699&os_id=28
NOTE: please read and follow the instructions because if done wrong it will render your drive useless
                        Hope this helps

                          Fellas,

Thanks for all of the help and links. I updated the firmware, as suggested. One question--if I am copying DRM/protected DVD's with the trial version of DVDFab, am I not required to use dual-layered DVD's? I ask because when I initially tried to burn a copy, I was told that the DVD I was using was not dual-layered, and the action could not be completed. Is there a way around this? I do have single-layered DVD's lying around the house.

                          Carrie

I have been wondering why you are using DL when SL would be fine and cheaper.

At the bottom left of the fab screen it says DVD9 Change that to DVD5
and use the single layer disc.

                            See attachment.

Thanks...will do. I thought I read something about the trial version not compressing, and not allowing DVD5. I'll try it. Wish this software came with a "DVDFab for Dummies" that would explain in simple steps what all of the options mean and which newbies should use to do simple tasks. When the program asked me for dual-layer, I assumed it was required due to something with the DRM on it.
