DVDFab 6.0 unable to copy Invictus

    Hello DVDFab users,

I have DVDFab 6 (6.0.1.0 -- Update says it is the latest version). It is running on Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 2). It has worked well for a long time, used often, and I have few problems with media.

All of a sudden trying to make a backup of a new DVD (Invictus) I am getting an error.
    "Failed to burn DVD"
The log of events on the DVDFab screen reports
    "Task_2failed! Error=105"

The error message appears almost immediately after the COPY phase (reading) has completed. Right at the start of the burning phase.

I tested to make sure that my hardware and software are working correctly by successfully burning a copy of an old Harry Potter DVD. All's well.

Any suggestions about what is wrong? According to http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=534 error code 105 means DVD_Error_UnexpectedPacket. Not much help there.

Here is the log found under Info:

Well, success. But not for the reason ya' might think.

I downloaded and installed DVDFab 7.0.8.0. Then I tried the same copy operation I had tried with DVDFab 6. It aborted with an error at the very same place -- as it just started to write. The ONLY thing different was that the error code was 122 instead of 105: "122 HWS_FAILED_CALIBRATING 22 // Write failed at the beginning of the media (often a media that is poorly supported by the drive)".

But I've burned to this media (Memorex .. yea, I know some people hate it) for literally hundreds of DVDs without problems. Not only that, but I used Cyberlink DVD Suite to successfully burn the very DVDs that had just failed in DVDFab. So this was definitely a DVDFab problem, right?

Wrong, I guess. I tried DVDFab again using different media and this time it worked perfectly. So go figger ... The only explanation I can think of is DVDFab and Cyberlink DVD Suite were using different writing speeds. Next time this happens I'll try setting a lower writing speed in DVDFab. Other ideas?

no other ideas as you not post log files to look at so we could see what might have been problem.

Well even though you have been successful up until now with MemorHex media, that does not mean you will be forever, and maybe I'm just reading your log wrong but you would think tracking servo failure has something to do with your drive failing, but someone more knowledgeable will have to take a look at it, and also could you post the other logs for DVDFab with the updated 7.0.7.8 please? If you're running Windows Vista/7 they're in C:/Users/"your username"/My Documents/DVDFab/Log/. Thank you and good luck.

not too sure about the servo failure but could you as well post the logs for the one that worked as well so can compare them. Also you can try giving ImgBurn a try as the burn engine instead of the VSO burn engine that installs with DVDFab. Below is a link to download ImgBurn and how to set up DVDFab to work with ImgBurn. Watch the youtube video to set them up to work together as it easy
