    Avatar (non BD) wont rip

Hey guys ive searched on this forum many times but this is my first post. Im trying to figure out what is wrong as i try to Rip Avatar.
So far this is what i have done. I have the V7.0.7.0 and disabled path player as when it is enabled Dvdfab would not recognize it. Then once i have it disabled and it is starting to rip everything is good until I get to 64.26 percent done at which it was ripping at 4-5 MB/s. Once it gets to 64.26 it slows down to .15MB/s and the time remaining goes from 10 minutes to right now saying 5 HRs left and keeps climbing. I have cleaned the disc, adjusting different aspects of DVDfab but to no avail. I have enough space on the hard-drive so that shouldn't be a problem. I have no errors so far as it technically is still ripping but at a snails pace. Can someone guide me to a fix or something I maybe doing wrong.. thanks Jeff

Fab has no problem ripping this movie with Pathplayer enabled.

Sounds like a dirty or scratched disc.

Download from the link below to scan the original for errors that would denote a defective disc.

    CD-DVD Speed v4.7.7.16 (freeware)

Thats what i figured. Ive had problems on other DVDs but have found work around's but no avail on this one. I did just clean with rubbing Al so i'll see if that does it then try the link. On a side note i had downloaded VSO inspector and it started to scan the disc. I let it get to layer 1000 and it was saying all layers failed and the scan would take 88hrs. i cancelled out of that. Will try one more time and try another disc. Thing is, ive had discs that looked much worse than this and ripped without a problem thanks

No need to look further if VSO is reporting error then you have a defective disc.

The link I gave you performs the same thing as VSO but no need to go there now.

        Replace your original.

Just curious on this, i watched the Original DVD the other night and it played flawlessly. Can it play flawlessly (no skips, pauses, blocks, ect) and still be a bad disc to rip?

Ripping and playing are apples and oranges.
A badly scratched disc will play but will not rip. There is no comparison between the two.

Bottom line is if VSO or nero cd/dvd speed says it has errors then it is a defective disc.
