DVDFab hangs when trying to read XL1B

    Hi All,

Running DVDFab 6.1.1.2Beta although this problem also occurs with 6.0.7

Running PowerExplorer to manage the XL1B changer. This program should allow me to run DVDFab from the command line and batch backup my dvd's. I also get this same issue when using MediaDoggs VAIO control program but note that both programs are controlling the changer just fine MOunt/Unmount/Load/Eject all work fine.

DVDFab runs fine from the command line when using the built-in DVD drive in my machine (Drive E)

DVDFab hangs when I try to drive it from the command line and use the changer's drive (Drive F). The command line is presenting /src "f:". If I try to explore to a disc in the changer's drive from DVDFab, the program also hangs.

Note that I can navigate to the F: drive and explore it and read and manipulate the VOB files in windows explorer.

I have also tried uninstalling the internal CD/DVD drive and running the XL1B drive only (as Drive E) but the same problem occurs. I noticed that when trying to navigate to this drive from DVDFab the icon shown in the navigation window stayed as a file folder and did not show up as a drive. Don't know if this means anything?

    internal Log file attached

There are so many repetitions of the various attempts made to achieve the backup in the VSO log that it makes the file size for attachment too large. I have taken the latest few and pasted them here

Looking at the VSO log it seems like I never get away from the E: drive despite many attempts.

Could it be that DVDFab doesn't like the multidrive scenario? Just a thought.

Can any deeper logging be done?

    All your thoughts gratefully received

sorry im not experienced with trying to access drives using similar methods. only have internal EIDE drives. so i cant really be of much help here.

however i do notice in your log that dvdfab does see the disc.

from you dvdfab log you are able to see the drive and see the name of the disc, but you dont get any further.

here is what my log looks like when the disc is properly read

    0m 04.65s: detected dvd
    0m 04.71s: drive F
    0m 04.73s: video dvd 1
    0m 04.75s: volume label AWAY_WE_GO
    0m 05.01s: got copyright 1 fe
    0m 05.64s: got udf/iso
    0m 06.92s: got discinfo
    0m 08.46s: got dvdinfo

Hi Troy and thanks for the reply.

I get the same kind of log with my internal drive too but no such luck with the changer.

The problem is that the drive you see in the log is the internal CD/DVD not the changer. I can't get DVDFab to recognise the changer's drive at all. It just hangs as soon as I try to use it as a source via the CLI or vis program navigation within DVDFab.

You might have noticed that this is a sister thread to one I have started in Feature Requests as I think you will find that there a lot of XL1B users out there who would love to be able to drive their changers using DVDFab.

Do you think the guys at ImgBurn would share their changer control success? The module they have built into version 2.4.0.0 and beyond works very nicely (except for no "to HDD" copying )and, IMHO, if you could get your hands on it, wouldn't need too much coding to integrate it with DVDFab as it appears to act reasonably independently of the main source.

Let me know if you think I'm talking out of my a@#e!

      Regards
      Ian

        0m 04.25s: drive F
        0m 04.25s: video dvd 1
        0m 04.25s: volume label HARRY_POTTER_PHILOSOPHERS_STON

And realistically, in all the years that I have been on the Fab forums, yours is the ONLY post that I have ever seen about this bit of kit.

          So.....

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for Fab to support it.

Yeah, mate. I kinda figured that that might end up being the case. The XL1B does have a massive subculture following in the CD ripping space. I guess I was hoping for some cross fertilisation as more and more media convergence occurs.

It's a shame we couldn't merge DVDFab's excellent suite with the XL1B management capabilities built (and working well) into ImgBurn. LUK has a nice little module for managing changers hanging off his software.
